"Attack of the Airships"[1][2] is a musical theme composed by Mahito Yokota for Super Mario Galaxy, where it plays during the opening cutscene as Bowser wreak havoc onto the Mushroom Kingdom. It is an orchestral arrangement of "Airship BGM" from Super Mario Bros. 3 that contains a unique melody near the end before the track ends.

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy marks the first appearance of "Attack of the Airships". It is also included in the official Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack album.

An arrangement of "Attack of the Airships", also arranged by Mahito Yokota, plays in Bowser Jr.'s Airship Armada. It is titled "Airship Armada" in the Nintendo Music app and the official Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack album. This arrangement is mostly identical to the original theme, except it contains a shorter intro and it loops instead of ending.

Both "Attack of the Airships" and "Airship Armada" return in the Nintendo Switch ports, Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, for the same purposes.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, the original version of "Airship Armada" plays during the opening when Bowser appears.

Super Mario 3D Land[edit]

In Super Mario 3D Land, an arrangement of "Airship Armada" that uses synthesized instruments instead of live performances plays in the airship levels. This arrangement was an early version of "Airship Armada" that went unused in the final version of Super Mario Galaxy.[3]

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[edit]

Though "Attack of the Airships" is not featured as a playable track in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS nor Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the original version of the theme is featured in Bowser Jr.'s official reveal trailer "The Future King" ("The Future of Evil" in British English), where it plays when the Koopalings are shown for the first time. The trailer originally released on October 23, 2014, and it is playable in the "Videos" menu in the Wii U version.
