Mouser is a boss introduced in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2. He is a large mouse who wears sunglasses, gloves, and boots. A resident of Subcon, Mouser is prideful and uses his bad dream bombs to destroy good dreams.[2]

History[edit]

Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic / Super Mario Bros. 2 / BS Super Mario USA / Super Mario Advance[edit]

Artwork from Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2, the first appearance of Mouser

In Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, Mouser is fought three times, appearing in World 1-3, World 3-3, and World 5-3, the last of which features a white Mouser with red shoes and gloves. In battle, Mouser throws bombs at the player, which will explode after a short time. Players must defeat Mouser by grabbing bombs from him or elsewhere in the stage and throwing them at him so that they explode near or on the rodent; Mouser takes three hits to defeat in World 1-3, five in World 3-3, and six in World 5-3. In Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario USA, the white Mouser is replaced with with Clawgrip; furthermore, Mouser has pink ears and shoes in World 1-3, while in World 3-3 he has green ears and shoes.

Mouser returns to Subcon with Birdo and Wart to invade it again, during the events of BS Super Mario USA. Mouser is found in World 1-3 as the main boss of the world. He is no different than in the original game. However, like Wart and the Birdos, he could cast his own magic spell; such as turning enemies and objects into bombs, and throwing giant bombs out of nowhere.

In Super Mario Advance, Robirdo replaces the second Mouser battle in World 3-3, and the second fight is moved to World 6-3, replacing Tryclyde's second battle. He was given voice acting along with the main cast and the other various bosses, and speaks in a snide tone. Upon defeat, Mouser exclaims "No way!" before falling off-screen.

There are some unused sprites in Super Mario Advance of what appears to be a Porcupo-like mouse enemy, indicating that Mouser was intended to start out as a regular enemy type before undergoing a transformation, much like Fryguy and Clawgrip.[3]

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show![edit]

This section is a stub. Please consider expanding it to include any missing information. Specifics: History of Mouser in the remaining episodes

Mouser
Mouser's normal appearance in "Do You Princess Toadstool Take this Koopa...?"
“I better warn his royal Koopaness that ze Marios are here!”
Mouser, "Koopenstein"

Mouser is a prominent villain in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! Unlike his appearance in Super Mario Bros. 2, Mouser works as second-in-command under King Koopa rather than being a part of the 8 bits. Like Koopa, Mouser has many aliases that often match the general theme of the episode in which he appears. His main method of attacking is to throw either bombs or Bob-Ombs.

Mouser is voiced by John Stocker—the same actor who voices Toad—and is given a Swiss accent. In "Butch Mario & The Luigi Kid" and "Rolling Down the River", his voice is higher-pitched than in later episodes. He appears in 23 episodes, all but two of which give him a speaking role. The only episodes in which Mouser appears where he does not have dialogue are "Pirates of Koopa" and "Karate Koopa".

"Butch Mario & The Luigi Kid"[edit]

Sheriff Mouser to you, you despicable felons!”
Mouser, "Butch Mario & The Luigi Kid"

In this episode, Mouser is referred to as Sheriff Mouser, wearing a purple bandanna around his neck, a brown cowboy hat, and a star-shaped badge.

Sheriff Mouser first appears to surprise Mario, Luigi, and Toad when they walk up a hill. He attempts to arrest them with a band of Snifits and Ostros. After fleeing, Mario and his friends encounter and jump across a waterfall. Mouser attempts to jump by claiming, "If they can do it, so can I!", hesitating, and then nervously saying that his cronies can go first. After they fail and fall into the waterfall, Mouser begins to cry.

After Mario and friends go to a mine where Princess Toadstool is trapped, Mouser surrounds them with his band and tells them to "reach for the sky". However, a Tweeter then gets into an argument with him, distracting him, and Mario and co. quickly run away. Mouser then throws a bomb at the mine, and a resulting boulder chases Mario and co. Eventually, they get exhausted, fall for a trap, and are captured.

Sheriff Mouser
Sheriff Mouser brings a glass of water.

Mario and Luigi hatch a plan to trick Mouser by begging for water. He brings a glass, only to drink it in front of them. Mario and Luigi then play a game of Patty Cake, and Mouser exclaims, "Hey! What are you loonies up to?" Mario then knocks Mouser's hat off, allowing Toad to sneak inside. Mouser puts the hat back on, unaware of Toad's presence.

Mouser then arrives at a bar for a drink. Toad sneaks from the hat and steals Mouser's bombs to bomb Mario and Luigi's jail cell. When Mouser notices that Mario and his friends are free, he orders his pack of Koopa Troopas to stop them. Mario and Luigi run to the mine where Princess Toadstool is trapped, and Mouser allows Kid Koopa, an alias for King Koopa, to stop them. However, Koopa fails, and the princess is rescued.

"Rolling Down the River"[edit]

First Mate Mouser in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Rolling Down the River"
First Mate Mouser, as he appears in "Rolling Down the River"

In this episode, Mouser is referred to as First Mate Mouser, wearing a dark purple bandanna, glasses with one half broken resembling an eye patch, and a red-and-white striped shirt.

First Mate Mouser appears from below deck to report to Captain Koopa, another of King Koopa's aliases, that he has found no trace of any stowaways. Not satisfied with this, Koopa violently shoves Mouser aside and ventures below the deck of the Sinister Star. Later, he keeps lookout with a telescope. Seeing a rival ship named the Ding Bell, Mouser proceeds to alert Koopa of this. Grabbing the telescope from Mouser, Koopa sees Mario and Luigi riding the Ding Bell; furious, he throws his telescope to the ground and stomps on it.

King Koopa orders Mouser to bring him a Black Pit Bob-Omb; hesitantly, Mouser brings forth a chest containing an enormous Bob-Omb and passes the explosive to Koopa.

Mouser is next seen with King Koopa looking quite bored before noticing the Ding Bell yet again. after it crossed the pit. Koopa, in his frustration, throws his telescope at Mouser and proceeds to stomp on it again when it lands on the ground.

When Koopa subdues the Mario Brothers later, Mouser helps him force Mario to walk the plank.

"The Great BMX Race"[edit]

Mouser retains his normal appearance in this episode and is part of Team Koopa, which opposes Mario and Luigi, along with Tryclyde and a Koopa Troopa. Mouser's taunting at their first encounter with Mario and Luigi causes Team Koopa to laugh so hard, it lets the brothers drive away on their motorcycle unnoticed.

Mouser and his team are instructed by King Koopa to attack Mario and Luigi when they reach Dead Man's Curve. They soon find Toad and Princess Toadstool, who had been trying to catch the brothers' attention, and capture them both. As Mario and Luigi leave the Pasta Pit after a large meal, Mouser and his team ambush them and knock them from their motorcycle. As the brothers drive up a cliff, Team Koopa drives directly towards them, causing them to get distracted, hit a rock, and fall off the cliff. When they miraculously climb back up and continue driving, Mouser and Team Koopa activate speed-increasing devices in their vehicles, allowing them to quickly approach the brothers again.

After Mario throws an open can of tomato sauce at Team Koopa, Tryclyde and the Koopa Troopa lose control of their vehicles. Mouser however, appears and begins to assault the brothers with Bob-Ombs. Unfortunately, he soon becomes disoriented in the explosion of one of his own projectiles. Just as Team Koopa surrounds the brothers, Mario and Luigi play a game of Patty Cake, distracting them. The brothers flee to a nearby vegetable patch and throw vegetables at Team Koopa. Mouser is hit by a large zucchini, knocked off his vehicle, and badly injured. He and the rest of Team Koopa are not able to continue racing.

"Stars in Their Eyes"[edit]

"Astro Mouser" as he appears in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode, "Stars in Their Eyes".
Astro Mouser, as seen in "Stars in Their Eyes"

In this episode, Mouser is referred to as Astro Mouser, wearing a purple jumpsuit and space helmet.

On the planet Quirk, Mouser throws a bomb at two Quirks, the planet's inhabitants, and demands they work harder and faster. Soon after, Mario's rocketship, after being forced to land by an array of meteors, crashes on top of a dumbstruck Mouser. The Quirks come to thank Mario and his friends for subduing Mouser, who slides out of the ship, appearing squished. Mouser then growls and throws squished Bob-Ombs at Mario and co. while they escape with the Quirks on a raft. He throws a Bob-Omb in the river, which springs a leak on the raft. Mario fixes the leak, however, which propels the crew away from Mouser. Mouser then alerts King Koopa about Mario and his friends entering the planet.

"Toad Warriors"[edit]

Mouser retains his normal appearance in this episode and is first seen in Car Land on a cliff with King Koopa just as State Troopa surrounds Mario and his friends. Koopa tells Mouser about his plan to sell stolen spaghetti sauce from the rebels of Car Land.

Later, King Koopa orders the Koopa Pack, consisting of Mouser and several State Troopas riding cars, to siege the Rebel Fort. Mouser is knocked down from his car by vegetables. He regretfully informs Koopa that Mario, Luigi and Toad have evaded capture, and soon after plots to annihilate them with his ultimate weapon, the Thunderbirdo. It bombards the Rebel Fort with a giant egg, causing an explosion, as an excited Mouser persuades King Koopa to overrun the fort, now in shambles.

During the race between Toad and King-of-the-Road Koopa, Mario and Princess Toadstool are surrounded by State Troopas, Mouser, and Thunderbirdo. Toadstool throws a bag of Bob-ombs into Thunderbirdo's mouth, causing it to explode and launch Mouser into the air. When he falls back down, Luigi throws a Bob-Omb directly at his face, sending him careening over the horizon. Mouser is not seen again for the rest of the episode.

"The Fire of Hercufleas"[edit]

In this episode, Mouser wears a gold Roman helmet and a tunic. He also lacks his trademark gloves.

At the beginning of the episode, just as Toad blabbers to Mario, Luigi, and Princess Toadstool about Hercufleas, Luigi spots Mouser entering Mythis riding on a chariot with two Ostros. When Mario and co. hold still like statues on top of some pedestals, Mouser inspects the area to try and find the Marios. As dust lands near Luigi's face, making him about to sneeze in the process, Mouser figures that the Marios are not around and leaves to report King Koopa about their absence.

Later, Mouser enters Koopacropolis to inform King Koopa that the Marios are nearby, he tells Mouser that once he takes the Marios down, he is sure to retrieve the Great Balls of Fire once and for all.

After Hercufleas's training, King Koopa commands Mouser to bring more marshmallows for him. When Mouser, holding large portion of marshmallows, asks King Koopa if he should just save the Great Balls of Fire just to defeat the Marios with them, King Koopa tells him that he has seemingly taken down the Marios, just when they, along with a now-muscular Hercufleas, have stormed into Koopacropolis. When Toad is taken to fall into the Great Balls of Fire by one of the Beezos, Hercufleas takes and throws Mouser's marshmallow bowl on top of the Great Balls of Fire, causing Toad to land safely into the marshmallows just as they melt, trapping the Beezos in them in the process. Towards the end of the episode, after a fiery face-off with Toad (in his Super Toad form), King Koopa calls in Mouser, who out of nowhere re-enters with his chariot and leaves just as Koopa leaves Koopacropolis once and for all.

"Count Koopula"[edit]

Mousigor in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Count Koopula"
Mousigor, as seen in "Count Koopula"

In this episode, Mouser is referred to as Mousigor, a portmanteau of Mouser's own name and the stock character "Igor". He wears a black cloak with a hood and has sharp teeth in this incarnation.

In Chateau Koopula, Count Koopula hires Mousigor to prepare some rooms for the Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad and a Tweeter Bat on a pole to lure Mario and his friends to his castle by snatching a box of spaghetti and bringing it to the chateau; Mario and the others, however, give chase to get the box back. When Mario rings the doorbell and asks Mousigor for rooms, the latter responds that the former and the others can stay in the castle, leading him instructing them to follow him. Mousigor then traps Princess Toadstool, the Mario Brothers, and Toad inside three respective rooms. Just when Toad inspects his room, Mousigor yells at him by his name, only to be attacked by a suspicious Toad, ripping away part of his cloak. Mouser pushes Toad away, leaves the room, and locks him inside.

When the Mario Brothers, the Princess, and Toad escape, Mousigor suddenly appears from the secret passage and taunts them right after Count Koopula opens the door and announces that dinner is served. Much to Toad's horror, Princess Toadstool and Toad slam the respective doors shut, and the four jump down a clothes chute.

Later, Mousigor enters "Count Koopula's Torture Chamber, Wax Museum, and Dungeon of Horrors" and taunts Mario. When Toad begs Mousigor to stop his torture, the latter taunts the former by spining the wheel on his rack, causing it to stretch him. However, the crank's pawl breaks loose, causing the wheel to spin rapidly and fling Mousigor backwards into a wall, rendering Toad free from the ropes. Mousigor is not seen again for the rest of the episode.

"Pirates of Koopa"[edit]

In this episode, Mouser, though never referred to as such or by any alias on-screen, retains his appearance as First Mate Mouser's in "Rolling Down the River". He only appears in one scene, however, as Mouser, alongside Tryclyde, Clawgrip, a Goomba and several Koopa Troopas, is seen waiting for the arrival of Blackbeard Koopa, who is rapidly approaching his ship to rapidly approach Pirate's Port.

"The Adventures of Sherlock Mario"[edit]

In this episode, Mouser wears an indigo trench coat, a gray detective hat, a green jumpsuit, and a pair of brown shoes.

Down below, in the sewer of Victoria, Mouser and Koopa Troopa have managed to tie Herlock Solmes to a chair, while Professor Koopa-arity and Tryclyde watch them do their job, as the four are in the midst of taunting him. Professor Koopa-arity asks Mouser, Tryclyde and Koopa Troopa who revealed his plans to Herlock Solmes, only for his accusations cause Mouser, Tryclyde and Koopa Troopa to lay the blame on each other, and a fight ensues. During the fight, Herlock tells Professor Koopa-arity that his plan to break into the Tower of Victoria is what a Koopa like him would do, much to the professor's anger. Professor Koopa-arity quells their fighting by grabbing them by the neck and tells them that they should go ahead with their plans to steal the Retro Router.

Mouser, alongside Professor Koopa-arity, Koopa Troopa, and Tryclyde, are then seen sneaking into a hallway at the Tower of Victoria under the disguise of redcoat guards, an idea that Mouser likes. Professor Koopa-arity takes out a Magical Potion and throws it at the bars which the Retro Router is behind, causing a door to appear in the bars. However, when Koopa gloats over, Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad, who are all wearing armoring while hiding in suits of armor to catch Professor Koopa-arity, Tryclyde, Mouser and Koopa Troopa, reveal themselves and claim that Koopa will never enact his plan, much to Koopa's rage. Mouser, as well as Professor Koopa-arity and Koopa Troopa, grab some nearby weapons on a wall and charge forward, with Tryclyde slithering behind them. As Professor Koopa-arity and the Koopa Pack charge towards them, the heroes raise several plungers as weapons and charge towards the villains as well. Mario, the Princess, Toad, and Luigi duel an axe-wielding Koopa, Tryclyde, a mace-wielding Mouser, and a sword-wielding Koopa Troopa, only to be forced back as Koopa Troopa splits Luigi's plunger. Professor Koopa-arity pulls a nearby lever on a wall, which activates a giant magnet suspended from the ceiling that pulls Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess Toadstool to it.

Eventually, after having tied Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess Toadstool, Professor Koopa-arity begins to taunt them as the Princess demands Koopa set them free. Ignoring the Princess, Koopa pulls a nearby lever which causes a swinging axe to start lowering from the ceiling above the heroes. Giving one final glare to heroes, Professor Koopa-arity leaves the room, with Mouser, Tryclyde and Koopa Troopa, who are carrying the Retro Router, leaving with him. However, Mario grabs the meatball sandwich and eats it, causing his stomach to bust himself off the ropes, and he sets Luigi free. Mario and Luigi then untie Toad and the Princess, respectively, from the ropes, and the four give chase.

In his sewer headquarters, Koopa is watching as Mouser, Tryclyde and Koopa Troopa prepare the Retro Router; as he works, Mouser tells Koopa that the Retro Router is almost complete. However, when Professor Koopa-arity asks Herlock Solmes, who is still tied to a chair, a question about his plans to flood Victoria, Herlock begins to list several of Koopa's secrets, all of which are embarrassing. All the revelations Herlock Solmes has made about Professor Koopa-arity made him furious, and Koopa turns to the hysterically laughing Tryclyde, Koopa Troopa and Mouser, the latter of whom he grabs and kicks into a wall before telling Tryclyde and Koopa Troopa to start working on the Retro Router again.

Eventually, Koopa Troopa informs Professor Koopa-arity that he, Mouser, and Tryclyde have managed to get the Retro Router in full working order. However, Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess Toadstool fall from the ceiling into Professor Koopa-arity's headquarters, only to be taunted by Koopa, who pulls a lever on the Retro Router, causing the device to pump a large amount of water on to the streets of Victoria. As Victoria begins to be rapidly submerged in water, Koopa orders the Koopa Pack to attack. However, Toad, the Princess, and Luigi manage to defeat Mouser, Tryclyde and Koopa Troopa, respectively, by headbutting them, knocking them away. Koopa is eventually defeated when Mario, after swinging from some pipes on the ceiling, flings himself towards Koopa, who Mario kicks into the Retro Router, destroying it. With the Retro Router destroyed, all the water that was flooding into Victoria begins to seep back into the sewers. With the Retro Router destroyed and the Koopa Pack defeated, Professor Koopa-arity, before he can be arrested by the freed Herlock Solmes, uses a Magical Potion to open a portal into a Warp Zone.

"Do You Princess Toadstool Take this Koopa...?"[edit]

Mouser retains his normal appearance in this episode and is seen helping King Koopa into his wedding jacket for the forced marriage between Koopa and Princess Toadstool. Koopa tells Mouser to make a guest list and invite all his friends to the occasion. After getting kicked away by King Koopa, Mouser gets off the ground, takes out a notepad, and asks King Koopa to tell him what friends to invite, a question which causes Koopa to walk around and think for a few seconds. Later, a frustrated King Koopa simply tells Mouser to invite his mother to the wedding so that she will arrive for the wedding cake. The button on King Koopa's jacket, however, pops off and flies forward—hitting Mouser in the eye and causing him to drop his notepad and pencil—leading Koopa picking Mouser up by the neck, and yelling that he cannot get married in this jacket. When the nearby Princess Toadstool responds to King Koopa by saying that he will not be getting married at all, Koopa drops Mouser and asks Princess Toadstool why that is, to which she responds to by saying that King Koopa has not turned Toad and the Mushroom People back to normal like he promised; flustered, King Koopa relents to Princess Toadstool's demands and brings her to a nearby room.

Later, after delivering bug soup for King Koopa's wedding, Mario and Luigi end up being noticed by Mouser and two Koopa Troopas while walking down a hallway. When Mouser proceeds to ask if he and the two Koopa Troopas know Mario and Luigi from somewhere, the Mario Brothers wink at each other and distract them by throwing their trays up into the air and starting to play Patty Cake with each other. Mario and Luigi grab their trays when they fall back down and proceed to throw them at Mouser, who dodges the first tray before being knocked backwards by the second one. Fleeing the scene, Mario and Luigi take off their caterer outfits and leave them behind.

Eventually, Mouser is busy sewing King Koopa's jacket until Koopa approaches him and tells him to hurry up, because otherwise, he will turn him over to his mother. After Mouser finishes King Koopa's puts his jacket, Koopa puts the jacket and his pants on and admires himself in a nearby mirror, only to hear his mother shrieking. King Koopa starts leaving with Mouser and inadvertently leaves his magic wand behind, and Mario takes it away—transforming him into Super Mario—and uses it to transform Luigi into Super Luigi and also change Toad back to normal, which causes the magic wand to overload and disintegrate.

At the great hall in King Koopa's castle, Mouser, Koopa's mother, several Koopa Troopas, and Goombas are attending the wedding with Tryclyde serving as its minister. Tryclyde starts the wedding by reading from the Bible, leading King Koopa reminds Princess Toadstool about their deal, which prompts the Princess to hesitantly begin to say, "I do." However, before she can say what Koopa says, the Mario Brothers and Toad interrupt the wedding by firing fireballs everywhere, causing everyone present to start panicking, with Goombas and Koopa Troopas starting to run in a frenzy and one Koopa Troopa tripping and falling headfirst into the wedding cake, causing it to collapse, crushing several Koopa Troopas, Goombas, Mouser and Tryclyde, as well as flinging icing into King Koopa's face.

"The Pied Koopa"[edit]

Mouser retains his normal appearance in this episode and is first seen in Pastaland's town square, delivering a Koopagram stating that Koopa has imprisoned the Mushroom children as a ransom for all of Pastaland's spaghetti tree crop. After charging Mayor Fettuccine four Gold Coins for the Koopagram, Mouser leaves. However, Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad set off to get the kids back themselves by following Mouser back to the Pied Koopa's castle.

Eventually, after entering the courtyard of the castle, the Pied Koopa discovers that the children are playing games with the Koopa Troopas that are supposed to be guarding them, reminds Mouser that his evil castle is not a nursery school, and demands him to have the children locked up in the brig and to "triple the guard". However, the Mario Brothers begin to lure the Koopa Troopas away from their post with music—just like the Pied Koopa did to the children—and amplify their music by letting the sound travel through a pipe, much to the Pied Koopa and Mouser's bafflement. Mouser attempts to stop Luigi from lowering the drawbridge, claiming that the music lacks any effect on him. However, in response, Luigi knocks Mouser aside with his trombone.

The Pied Koopa announces that he plans to go out and recapture the children with his magic flute, seeking to put Mouser in full charge of them afterwards, which Mouser is against. In the end, Mouser pulls the lever that drops the drawbridge on purpose, causing the Pied Koopa to fall into the moat, drop and lose his flute, and start crying.

"Koopenstein"[edit]

“Brain surgery, and you are about to learn about it, ze hard way!”
Mouser, "Koopenstein"

In this episode, Mouser wears a white laboratory coat and a pair of white gloves.

Mouser rushes into Dr. Koopenstein's tower, leading Koopenstein saying aloud that he could use his brain to complete his Monster Robot Troopa if he were not unsmart and then asking what he wants. When Mouser answers Koopenstein by telling him that Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad are in the village, the doctor comes up with the idea of using both Mario and Luigi's brains to power the Troopa, believing that individually, the brothers' brains are too dim for use in the Troopa. When Koopenstein congratulates Mouser, the former proceeds to threaten to feed the former to the Troopa if he refuses procure Mario and Luigi's brains, much to Mouser's horror.

Outside of Koopenstein's tower, Toad starts scaling the wall, only to have a hard time climbing, leading him berating himself on having thought of such a hard to-do plan and for having a big mouth. Mario watches as Toad gets close to the battlements while scaling the tower wall and yells for him to hurry, only for Princess Toadstool to ask Mario if he ever thinks about anything other than food. Mario asks what else there is to think about, but Mouser appears with a brigade of Shyguys (one of whom is riding an Autobomb), and responds "brain surgery", which he is going to learn about the hard way.

Mouser captures the Mario Brothers and Princess Toadstool in shackles and escorts them to the laboratory. There, Dr. Koopenstein, who is working on a machine, congratulates Mouser on a job well done once more. Mouser straps the Mario Brothers to a chair, and the doctor tells them of his plan to measure their collective brain power and informs them to think of the smartest person they know, which he describes himself as. When Koopenstein pulls a lever to activate his brain scanner, it has been revealed that the Mario Brothers are not too bright, and he exclaims that a potted plant scores higher than they do and yells that no one can be as unsmart as Mario and Luigi, leading the former brother retaliating by saying that the doctor is that stupid if he thinks he and the latter brother will give their brains to him.

Princess Toadstool knocks Mouser aside and tells Dr. Koopenstein to leave Mario and Luigi alone, only to be asked by the doctor if Toad will help her out. However, Toad suddenly leaps through the skylight and knocks Koopenstein to the floor by landing on his head, leading Mouser ducking for cover. When the Princess busts the Mario Brothers out of their bonds, the doctor gets off the ground and attempts to tackle Luigi; however, he crashes into Mouser instead, flinging him away. After being sent sprawling and crashing into his own brain scanning chair, Dr. Koopenstein is electrocuted by his brain scanner, which sends out flashes of light, causing the doctor to transform into the Koopenstein Monster. The monster lunges forward, knocks Mario, Luigi, and Toad away, grabs the Princess, and crashes through a nearby door. When Mouser runs after Princess Toadstool and the Koopenstein Monster, the Mario Brothers and Toad get off the ground and run outside, just in time to see him carry her down the stairs leading to the tower.

Up in the Swiss Cheese Alps, the Koopenstein Monster lumbers towards a cave, which Mouser exits. He greets the monster by telling him that he stopped Princess Taodstool from escaping. The Koopenstein Monster, however, responds by emitting several unintelligible grumbles. Entering the cave alongside Mouser, the Princess yells at the Koopenstein Monster, demanding it to let her go, only to be silenced quickly as the monster growls menacingly at her, which Mouser translates as meaning that she will never get away. Meanwhile, back at the laboratory, Mario takes out a remote control with a joystick on it and starts moving it around, activating the nearby Monster Robot Troopa, much to Toad's fear.

Outside the Koopenstein Monster's cave, Mouser watching over the area, only to see the brothers and Toad rapidly approaching, with Mario riding the Troopa, much to Mouser's shock. He runs into the Koopenstein Monster's cave, where the monster is in the middle of menacing Princess Toadstool, and informs him that the Mario Brothers, Toad, and the Troopa are coming. When the Koopenstein Monster starts exiting the cave, Princess Toadstool begs him not to hurt Mario, Luigi or Toad, only to be held back by Mouser. Mario sees the Koopenstein Monster and has the Monster Robot Troopa begin to battle it, and the heroes and Mouser watch the Troopa and Koopenstein struggle against one another. Seeing that Mario has the Troopa's remote, Mouser rushes forward, knocks the Bomb Plants Luigi and Toad were carrying away, grabs the remote control from Mario, and starts running away, only to be tackled to the ground and sent skidding by Toad. When Mouser later stops behind the Monster Robot Troopa, the Troopa inadvertently steps on its remote, causing it to release an electrical surge that travels through it and into the Koopenstein Monster, sending electricity flying through the air. Mouser, the Koopenstein Monster, and the Monster Robot Troopa end up tumbling off a nearby cliff and into a river, with the monster transforming back into Dr. Koopenstein. Unable to remember his tenure as the Koopenstein Monster, the doctor demands to know what has happened, which Mouser responds by telling him the long story and warns him in advance that he will hate the ending.

"On Her Majesty's Sewer Service"[edit]

In this episode, Mouser wears a black dress shirt, a white undershirt, a blue necktie, a black bowler, a brown pair of pants, and a black pair of shoes; however, he also has a mustache and appears to be buff as well.

Secret Agent N brings up a monitor showing Koopfinger driving towards the treasury in a limo along with Mouser, Tryclyde and a Koopa Troopa, the latter two who are also buff. The group arrives at the entrance to Fort Hard Knox, which Koopfinger blasts open with a Bob-Omb. With no one around to stop them, Koopfinger's group proceeds to steal all the Gold Coins. Just as Koopfinger drives off, Mario and Luigi reach Fort Hard Knox and head after him in their Spymobile. Luigi activates the plumber pulsion, and the brothers are able to speed up towards Koopfinger. After the Koopa Troopa spots the Mario Brothers gaining on them in the Spymobile, Koopfinger pushes a button that opens a compartment in the back of the truck with a Snifit in it that shoots away at the Spymobile. Nothing happens, however, as Luigi points that the glass is Snifit-proof, and Mario orders him to fire the plumber missiles (two plungers) at the Snifit, which he does so, knocking it out. Koopfinger then releases an Albatoss carrying a Bob-Omb, but it ends up being taken down by the plumber gun (a shower head) that Luigi uses. Koopfinger then summons a large Birdo with dragon wings that comes swooping down from the sky, picks up the Spymobile, and flies off to Koopfinger's hideout.

Eventually, at Koopfinger's hideout, the Mario Brothers have been cuffed to a board in Koopfinger's office, where Koopfinger pushes a button, activating a game known as the Wheel of Misfortune from behind a panel, complete with hostess Vampa White. As Koopfinger, Mouser, Tryclyde, and Koopa Troopa witness the game, Vampa explains the simple rules of the game, saying that she will spin the wheel to determine the brothers' fate. After she spins the wheel, it lands on "Tunnel of Doom", leading her pulling a lever, dumping Mario and Luigi in an underground tunnel. However, the Mario Brothers manage to escape from the Tunnel of Doom, leading Koopfinger ordering Mouser, Koopa Troopa and Tryclyde to attack them. Mario fights Mouser and Tryclyde with the atomic screwdriver. Mouser attempts to throw his bowler at Mario, but it knocks out Tryclyde and Koopa Troopa instead. Vampa White tries to blow a fireball kiss at Mario, but the fireball manages to hit both her and Mouser instead. Mouser is not seen again for the rest of the episode.

"Mighty McMario and the Pot of Gold"[edit]

In this episode, Mouser wears a pair of brown winklepickers with an orange-yellow buckle, a pair of violet pants with red stripes, a violet belt with an orange-yellow buckle, a dark-purple cloak with a hood.

Mouser is seen relaxing on a haystack in the Shamrock Kingdom until they see Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, Toad, and a leprechaun named Murphy heading off to eat lunch so they can defeat King O'Koopa. This leads Mouser going to King O'Koopa's castle, where he tells the king himself that Mario and his friends have arrived in Sharmock Land. Upon being told, King O'Koopa proposes to throw a welcoming party for the heroes. With the help from King O'Koopa, Mouser sends a group of Koopa Troopas to invade Shamrock Inn. Mario tries to keep the Koopas out of the Sharmock Inn by holding the door shut, only for them to manage to break in anyway. However, Luigi and Toad toss the pot of cannelloni onto several Koopa Troopas, and Mario manages to knock over a row of Koopa Troopas by using a chandelier to swing into them. Murphy tries to assist Mario in swinging from the chandelier as well, only for his bad luck to cause it to break away from the ceiling.

Eventually, Mouser informs King O'Koopa that Mario has escaped from the dungeon. After opting to hide the Pot of Gold Coins elsewhere, King O'Koopa sends Mouser to guard Princess Toadstool while he is gone. Toad and Luigi then appear and taunt Mouser, who gives chase with two Koopa Troopas. With Mouser out of the way, Mario tells Murphy to stay behind, while he uses a hacksaw from his All Purpose Portable Plumber's Helper to try and cut through Princess Toadstool's chain. Meanwhile, Mouser and the Koopa Troopas chase Luigi and Toad through a hallway in the castle and come to an area with several doors on both sides, leading a Scooby-Doo-esque chase scene occurring as both groups chase each other through the doors. Luigi and Toad manage to tire out Mouser and the Koopa Troopas, only to crash into an opened door, where King O'Koopa is holding Murphy. Just as Mario manages to cut through Princess Toadstool's chain, King O'Koopa appears to show them that he, Mouser, and the Koopa Troopas are holding Luigi, Toad, and Murphy hostage. However, Murphy hugs King O'Koopa's leg, leading him stumbling back into a wall where an ornamental mace falls onto his head. King O'Koopa shakes Murphy off of his leg, only to stumble into a statue of himself, which breaks and falls on top of him. Mouser and the Koopa Troopas, after witnessing the situation, run from Murphy afterwards. Mouser is not seen again for the rest of the episode.

"The Unzappables"[edit]

In this episode, Mouser wears an indigo shirt and pants, a dark pine green tie, a yellow undershirt, and a white pair of shoes with black outsoles, and he is later given an indigo Unzappable Hat with a purple hatband attached to a spade card.

Mouser is first seen exiting a bank with sacks of money and violin cases, alongside Koopa Troopa and Tryclyde. The three head to a soda bar known as the Koopa Klub to deliver several stacks of pink boxes, which Tryclyde describes as Al Koopone's latest order from the Gangster Supply Store, to Al Koopone's office. A delighted Al Koopone orders his henchmen to place the boxes down, only for his Koopa Pack to stumble over and fall, revealing the hats that had been inside them. Mouser, Tryclyde, and Koopa Troopa learn that the hats are magical, and Al Koopones orders them to wear them and then pulls a Snifit out of his violin case, much to the three's fear. Although the Snifit fires at them, the bullets ricochet off of them unscathed. Al Koopone laughs that his new hats work, as they make the wearer resist any attack, and he tells the Koopa Pack to get ready for an upcoming Koopa caper.

Al Koopone and his Koopa Pack head off to rob the First Mushroom Bank, with Mouser and Koopa Troopa threatening to shoot all the Mushroon People inside with Snifits. After intimidating the citizens, Mouser notices the bank's vault, leading Al Koopone pulling out a limbless Bob-Omb and bowling it down towards the vault door, blasting it open, and sending the Gold Coins within flying across the room. However, Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad exit from the vault, startling them, and toss Vegetables at the Koopa Pack, but they all bounce off them because they are wearing their Unzappable Hats. Mario then tries to attack Al Koopone with his plunger, only to get thrown back by the power of the hat. Al Koopone sends Mouser to take Mario and his friends for a ride.

Eventually, Al Koopone and the Koopa Pack fit Mario and his friends in cement shoes, tie them up in rope, and stand before them. Al Koopone pulls a lever, opening a trapdoor in the bridge that Mario's group falls through, which Mouser and Tryclyde witness the heroes try to drown. However, Mario and his friends manage to survive thanks to the power of a Starman that powers Mario up into Super Mario, as he manages to burst out of his cement shoes and rope and simultaneously tosses three fireballs at the cement shoes to free Luigi, the Princess, and Toad, who manage to untangle themselves from their ropes. The Mario Brothers and Toad, dressed as gangsters, along Princess Toadstool, dressed like a showgirl, approach the front door of the Koopa Klub and knock on that door. When Mouser opens a lookout window and asks the group for their identity. Mario speaks in a scratchy voice by telling Mouser that they are Aface and his gang. When Mouser asks them for the password, they forget what it is, only to learn that "cheese balls" is the password. After being told by Mario the password, Mouser allows them to enter the Koopa Klub.

Later, an enraged Al Koopone orders the Koopa Pack to attack Mario and his friends with their Snifits, but the heroes end up being immune to the bullets as they are wearing Unzappable Hats, and they toss several Vegetables against the crossfire of the bullets at the Koopas, causing Al Koopone to hide behind a turned table and cower. The Vegetables then hit Mouser, Koopa Troopa and Tryclyde, knocking them all aside. Mouser is not seen again for the rest of the episode.

While Mouser does not appear in this episode, a dinosaurian creature with similar features makes an appearance.

"Escape from Koopatraz"[edit]

In this episode, Mouser is referred to as Bailiff Mouser, wearing an indigo dress shirt, a white undershirt, a purple bowtie, and a brown pair of pants.

Episode appearances[edit]

Super Mario Bros. (Valiant Comics)[edit]

In the Super Mario Bros. comics, Mouser is said to have been the leader of similar looking "mice" before defecting to King Koopa.

In "A Mouser in the Houser", it is revealed that the mice once had a prosperous society, having dug the Transport Tube system and hidden all the treasures they found in it. Eventually, the society of the mice began to crumble when their king, Mouser, abandoned them and joined Bowser. Additionally, several mice abduct Princess Toadstool after she becomes lost in the Transport Tube system. After kidnapping the princess, the mice reveal their origin to her and offer her the position of their queen, saying that if she agreed to this proposal, she could have a map of the Transport Tube system, as well as dozens of ready troops to help her defeat Bowser. Princess Toadstool eventually rejects the offer of becoming queen of the mice when they refuse to help her aid Mario, who was being attacked by Mouser.

In "The Buddy System", a large group of mice appear to capture Mario and Bowser when the two become lost in the Transport Tube system. Shackling Mario and Bowser together, these mice interrogate them and learn that Bowser had planned on flooding the Transport Tube system by blowing up the main water valve of it. Deciding to aid Bowser in his plot of destroying the Transport Tube system, this group of mice use bombs to blow up the main water valve, which causes a large amount of water to flow through the Transport Tube system and wash them away.

Though several mice appear on the alternate cover of another Super Mario Bros. comic entitled "Bedtime for Drain-Head", no mice actually appear in the story.

Super Mario Bros. & Friends: When I Grow Up[edit]

Mouser as a Disc Jocky[sic]
Screenshot from Super Mario Bros. & Friends: When I Grow Up

In Super Mario Bros. & Friends: When I Grow Up, Mouser briefly appears as a disk jockey in the "Disk Jockey" career page. The page states the following:

Mouser is one cool disc jockey! His morning show is a big hit on the radio. Everyone loves "The Mouser in the Morning Show". Everyone except for Mario the sound engineer. "I think I'll go get a job at a library!" says Mario. "I need some peace and quiet. That Mouser plays his music too loud in the studio."

Super Mario-kun[edit]

In Super Mario-kun, Mouser first appears in chapter 6 of volume 6 as a minor antagonist. After Bowser had some 8 bits soldiers delivered to him by accident in the previous chapter, Wart sent Mouser, alongside some Shy Guys, to bring them back to Subcon. Birdo, being one of them, refuses after falling in love with Yoshi and Mouser starts bickering with her. He manages to give Mario and company a fight for their lives by attaching a Phanto on Luigi's face, turning him evil; Mouser's plan is foiled when Luigi is affected by some Yoshi Cookies in a Panic formation. Mouser resorts to throwing bombs, but Luigi catches them and tosses them back, defeating him.

Mouser reappears in chapter 3 of volume 8. Interested in Birdo's new friends, Wart kidnaps them and brings them to Subcon to challenge them. While traversing World 3, Yoshi is lured by some kashiwa mochi that Birdo recognizes as one of Mouser's traps, and shoves Yoshi away from the candies as they explode, eliminating her. Full of rage, Yoshi retaliates by mercilessly beating Mouser. Once again, the Yoshi Cookies are used and, after accidentally hitting Mario with a Slave formation, Yoshi combines his attacks with Mario's and manages to kill Mouser and avenge Birdo's death.

Later, during the second part of the Wart fight, Wart molds himself into a hybrid of all the 8 bits' generals, granting him Mouser's skill to generate an infinite amount of bomb supplies.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

In the Super Smash Bros. series, there are a few items of Mouser. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl there is a sticker of Mouser that, when used on any fighter in The Subspace Emissary, boosts their arm attack power by 20 points. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there is a Novice-class Grab-type primary spirit of Mouser that, when used, boosts the fighter's power without granting any special effect. In World of Light, the spirit is found on The Light Realm map, and the spirit battle takes place on the Battlefield form of the Mushroom Kingdom II stage, with Pikachu as an opponent and Bob-ombs as the only items that spawn. The core extracted from a Mouser spirit can be combined with a Count Cannoli core and two other Neutral cores to summon the Daroach spirit.

Unused appearances[edit]

The Super Mario Bros. Movie[edit]

A mouse character that resembles Mouser can be seen in concept art for The Super Mario Bros. Movie.[4]

General information[edit]

Physical description[edit]

Mouser, like the rest of his species, is an anthropomorphic mouse that wears sunglasses that covers his eyes in most cases. When his eyes are not covered, it is shown to be a white eye with a black pupil. He has gray fur, pink ears, a fur-less snout with a full set of teeth, and a fur-less tail. In Mouser's normal appearance, he lacks clothing, except for red gloves, red shoes and his sunglasses. Mouser does take on aliases, like King Koopa, where he wears an outfit to match the theme of the episode and he gets mentioned by a title, such as First Mate Mouser. In the show, Mouser has a Swiss accent, which is indicated by saying "zat" instead of "that" and other phrases where it is clearly defined. There are also references to his love of Swiss cheese.

Personality[edit]

The instruction booklet for Super Mario Bros. 2 states that he is very proud and does not think of himself as an ordinary mouse. In the cartoons, Mouser, like his boss, King Koopa, is an antagonist of Mario and his friends and he will do anything he can to capture them. Mouser also likes to use bombs as his primary form of attack. Even though he is second-in-command, his pack members still obey him, as seen in "Butch Mario & The Luigi Kid". Mouser, however, does laugh at King Koopa when something embarrassing happens to him, as demonstrated in the episode, "The Adventures of Sherlock Mario" when Herlock Solmes recalls King Koopa's embarrassing memories of his past, though he is still afraid when King Koopa threatens or gets angry at him.
