"Ice Mario"[1][2] is a musical theme composed by Mahito Yokota for Super Mario Galaxy, where it plays whenever the player obtains an Ice Flower and continues playing throughout the duration of the power-up's effect. Much like "Rainbow Mario" from the same game and "Switch On!" from New Super Mario Bros., the theme's tempo speeds up as the time limit runs out.

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy marks the first appearance of "Ice Mario". An arrangement of "Ice Mario", titled "Fire Mario", plays whenever the player obtains a Fire Flower. Both themes return for the same purpose in the Nintendo Switch ports, Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2. Both are also included in the official Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack album.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]

In Super Mario Galaxy 2 and its Nintendo Switch port, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, a remix of "Fire Mario" plays whenever the player obtains a Fire Flower. This remix adds a cuica and additional synthesizer to the instrumentation.

An arrangement of "Fire Mario" is incorporated into "Squizzard", the theme that plays when fighting Squizzard. The arrangement is dynamically added to the theme while the player is in Fire Mario form, though the tempo does not speed up as the power-up's time limit runs out. Like the game's "Fire Mario" remix and "Squizzard" itself, this arrangement incorporates a cuica. "Squizzard" is also included in the official Super Mario Galaxy 2 Original Soundtrack album and on Nintendo Music, where the regular and Fire Mario versions are played in sequence on the same track.

An unused version of "Ice Mario" exists in the game's files.

At the Super Nintendo World theme park, arrangements of "Ice Mario" and "Fire Mario" that exclude the intro play when collecting an Ice Flower or Fire Flower respectively in the Frosted Glacier interactive.
