"Teleporter Melody"[2] is a musical theme composed by Mahito Yokota for Super Mario Galaxy 2, where it plays whenever the player is temporarily visiting a bonus planetoid through a teleporter. The theme is a frantic piece that uses the whole tone scale and modulates up by a half step each time it repeats. Much like the "Invincibility BGM" arrangements introduced in Super Mario Galaxy and "Switch On!" from New Super Mario Bros., this theme's tempo speeds up as the time limit runs out.

The marimba part is done on an E-mu Virtuoso 2000, the muted cuíca is from a Edirol Studio Canvas SD-90, the electronic drums are done on a Roland Fantom-X8 synthesizer, the acoustic drums is from an unknown source, and the Korg Triton is used for pizzicato strings, synth bass, and sine waves.

History[edit]

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy 2 marks the first appearance of "Teleporter Melody," and it returns for the same purpose in the Nintendo Switch port, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2. It is also included in the official Super Mario Galaxy 2 Original Soundtrack album.

Super Mario 3D Land[edit]

In Super Mario 3D Land, an arrangement of "Teleporter Melody" plays during Mystery Box segments, which serve the same purpose as the teleporters in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Like the original, the theme speeds up as the time limit runs out. The vibraphone comes from "FS Vibe" (a bank found in Preset A of Roland Fantom-X8) and the music box comes from "Childlike" (a bank found in Preset A of Roland XV-5080); the cuíca comes from the Roland SRX-09 World Collection, and all the other instruments come from the Roland Fantom-X8.

“We imagine this theme has become quite familiar to players by now. The difference is the audio quality, which has become better and better over the years as gaming technology has developed.”
Liner notes in the Super Mario 3D World Original Soundtrack

In Super Mario 3D World and the Nintendo Switch port, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, an arrangement of "Teleporter Melody" plays in Mystery Box segments. It is titled "Going All Out in the Mystery House" in the official Super Mario 3D World Original Soundtrack album, and it was arranged by Mahito Yokota. The arrangement is very similar to its Super Mario 3D Land counterpart, but it features richer sound. The theme's acceleration remains, but it speeds up faster than in Super Mario 3D Land. For this arrangement, the music box comes from "Childlike" (a bank found in Preset A of Roland XV-5080) whilst all the other instruments come from the Roland Fantom-X8.

In the Bowser's Fury campaign, an arrangement of "Teleporter Melody" plays in the opening cutscene when Mario follows a trail of black goop.
