"Course Clear"[1] is a brief fanfare composed for Super Mario World by Koji Kondo, where it plays upon the player completing a level by passing a Giant Gate or, in the case of Switch Palaces, pressing a ! Switch. It is an arrangement of "Ground BGM" from the same game using brass instrumentation.

History[edit]

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario World[edit]

Super Mario World marks the first appearance of "Course Clear." The fanfare after completing a bonus game, titled "Bonus Game Clear" in the Nintendo Music app, is a loose arrangement of "Course Clear." The fanfare after clearing a castle level, titled "Castle Clear" in the Nintendo Music app, is a slower, more elaborate arrangement of "Course Clear." All three themes also appear on the game's soundtrack album.

Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2[edit]

In Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, the Game Boy Advance remake of Super Mario World, arrangements of "Course Clear," "Bonus Game Clear," and "Castle Clear" play in the same places as the original game.

Super Mario Maker series[edit]

Super Mario Maker, its Nintendo 3DS port, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Mario Maker 2 play "Course Clear" when completing a course in the Super Mario World game style. When the "Bonus Music" sound effect is active, "Bonus Game Clear" plays instead. In castle-themed levels, "Castle Clear" plays in place of both fanfares.

An arrangement of "Course Clear" is incorporated into the music used in Super Mario Maker 2's announcement trailer that mixes Super Mario Bros. 3-style, Super Mario World-style, and Super Mario 3D World-style instrumentation.

Paper Mario series[edit]

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door features two arrangements of the second portion of "Course Clear." The first, titled "Battle - Victory Fanfare" in the Nintendo Music app, plays when completing a battle when the current partner is not downed. The second arrangement, titled "Battle - Victory Fanfare (Partner at 0 HP)" in the Nintendo Music app, is a distorted interpretation that plays in place of the first theme when a partner is downed.
