“This is a Red Space. Try not to land on one. You'll lose 3 coins!”
MC Ballyhoo, Mario Party 8

Red Spaces (known as Minus Spaces in Mario Party 5 and Lose Coins Spaces in Mario Party 10) are spaces in the Mario Party series. When a player lands on a Red Space, they will lose coins (three to nine, depending on the game and the specific circumstances). In Mario Party 7 and Mario Party 8, a Bonus Star may be awarded to the player who lands on the most Red Spaces. Also, like with all of the other spaces in Mario Party 8, the shape is different on each board, including the tutorial. In Mario Party 9, Red Spaces have been replaced by Mini Ztar Spaces. Red Spaces reappear in Mario Party: Island Tour, where they are known as Danger Spaces and appear only in Banzai Bill's Mad Mountain. These spaces may hurt the chance of advancing, as they are crossed by a Banzai Bill when it is launched.
