In the Super Mario franchise, Pineapples are a recurring type of fruit that first appear in Donkey Kong Circus.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Circus[edit]

In Donkey Kong Circus, Donkey Kong juggles pineapples in order to entertain Mario. Donkey Kong does this while balancing on a barrel.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show![edit]

In The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode, "Too Hot to Handle," a pineapple patch grew on Waki-Waki. Mario, Luigi, and Toad used the pineapples as projectiles against King Koopa's Shy Guys in the same manner they used vegetables in Super Mario Bros. 2.

Yoshi[edit]

Pineapples appear in Yoshi, after the player clears levels 16 through 18 of the B-Type game, rewarding the player 800 points.

Donkey Kong 64[edit]

Pineapples make a smaller appearance in the game Donkey Kong 64. They are shot out of Chunky Kong's Pineapple Launcher.

Super Mario Sunshine[edit]

Pineapples appear as a fruit for Yoshis in Super Mario Sunshine. When a Yoshi eats one, it will become orange and its Juice meter will be filled, allowing it to turn enemies into orange stationary platforms. An abnormally large pineapple also appears on a local rooftop, blocking the red Warp Pipe leading to Sirena Beach. The player must use a Yoshi to eat the large pineapple and unblock the Warp Pipe before they can progress. This one does not change the Yoshi's color or fill its juice meter.

Mario Party 4[edit]

In Mario Party 4, pineapples appear in the Bowser minigame Fruits of Doom, as one of the potential fruits on Bowser's list.

In Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, there a giant pineapple appears at the end of each level of its titular kingdom, Pineapple Kingdom. Donkey Kong must bite into the Pineapple to end the level. Blood Pines, another kind of pineapple, also appears in that game.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie[edit]

In The Super Mario Bros. Movie, pineapples can be seen in a fruit cart along with watermelons and bananas while Toad is escorting Mario through the Mushroom Kingdom.
