Bamboo dancers,[1] also referred to as limbo guys[2] or limbo Shy Guys,[3] are a subset of Spear Guys that do the Bamboo Dance.[4] While Dancing Spear Guys jump around with spears, bamboo dancers always come in color-coded pairs and dance with limbo sticks. Their sticks can trip Yoshis and lower their happiness, so they must be jumped over to avoid damage. During gameplay, one dancer is in the foreground while the other is in the background, making them invincible. Bamboo dancers appear as enemies only in Shy Guy Limbo in Yoshi's Story.
The artwork and sprites for bamboo dancers appear quite differently, as the sprites appear to be wearing yellow face paint and grass skirts in the same manner as Spear Guys, while the artwork depicts one with an unpainted mask and a much less leafy skirt. In addition, their shoes are green in the artwork instead of blue.
In Mario Party Advance, a female bamboo dancer named Hulu appears as a character; however, she more closely resembles a Dancing Spear Guy. Hulu is a dance instructor who runs Shroom City's only dance school, the Dance Stage, with two other Spear Guys. She is the only known female Shy Guy. The dance school is located in the jungle area of Shroom City, and her quest is called Jungle Jive.
To clear the quest, the player has to press different buttons (
,
or the
) that Hulu shows on a plate. If the player clears the quest, the Mini Bowling Gaddget is unlocked. The ending states that she has new students and a new classroom.
