Ghost Valley 2 is the second course of the Flower Cup in Super Mario Kart. Like its predecessor, it is a dark bridge surrounded by Boos. This course reappears in Mario Kart: Super Circuit as the third course of the Extra Flower Cup, in Mario Kart Wii as the third course of the Shell Cup, and in Mario Kart Tour starting with the 2022 Mario vs. Luigi Tour.

Course layoutEdit

Yoshi racing on the course

This Ghost Valley is longer than the first and features more sharp turns. It begins with two 90° turns to the right, with the first set of ? Panels in between, followed by a 90° turn to the left. Racers then take a slight left turn followed by two sharp 90° right turns On the outside of the first right turn is two more ? Panels. There is then a 90° left turn followed by an especially sharp right turn and then a slight right turn, where a brief straight then brings racers to the finish line. On the right side of this brief straight, there is a zipper followed by a jump pad, and a ? Panel immediately after the jump pad; racers must use a well timed hop to be able to reach the ? Panel.

Most of the course is surrounded by tiles which act as guard rails, but bumping into a tile will destroy it, allowing racers to go through the subsequent gap and fall off the course.

ShortcutsEdit

A notable shortcut can be found after the first left turn. The player can go to the right side of the track and use a Feather to jump over a gap and cut off the following right turn.

Mario Kart: Super CircuitEdit

Luigi racing on the course in Mario Kart: Super Circuit

Ghost Valley 2 reappears in Mario Kart: Super Circuit, and is the third track of the Extra Flower Cup. It uses the background from Boo Lake. The Dash Panel and ramp in front of the last Item Box, as well as the legs holding up the track, were removed.

Mario Kart WiiEdit

Ghost Valley 2 in Mario Kart Wii

Ghost Valley 2 also reappears in Mario Kart Wii as the third race of the Shell Cup. Since there are no Feathers in the game, a ramp was placed at the shortcut, although light and middleweights do not need a boost to get across, while heavyweights need to perform a trick to do so. In Time Trials, the blocks on the side do not fall off when the player bumps into them, instead doing so as the race progresses. Silhouettes of what appear to be buildings resembling Luigi's Mansion can be seen in the background. This is the shortest course in the game. As such, the expert staff ghost for this course is the only ghost data in Mario Kart Wii to be less than a minute long.

This course and Moo Moo Meadows are the only courses in Mario Kart Wii where a Tournament did not take place.

ShortcutEdit

Funky Kong skipping a large portion of the track

When boosting with a Mushroom or charging a Mini-Turbo into the pole next to the finishing line, the player's vehicle will clip the pole and be sent flying over the bottomless pit, thus skipping a large part of the course. The alignment needs to be on the left side of the right pole.

Mario Kart TourEdit

SNES Ghost Valley 2 in Mario Kart Tour

Ghost Valley 2 was first shown in Mario Kart Tour during the 2020 Halloween Tour on an announcement banner.[1][2] The course would later return in the 2022 Mario vs. Luigi Tour, forty-nine tours later.

The visual changes made to SNES Ghost Valley 1 were also applied to this course. A glide ramp was added near the end of the course, which is reversed when playing on SNES Ghost Valley 2R. A wooden cutout of Boos has been added at the ramp shortcut, similar to SNES Ghost Valley 1.

The course also appears as Ghost Valley 2R (reversed), Ghost Valley 2T (with ramps), and Ghost Valley 2R/T (reversed with ramps). The former two were introduced alongside the normal variant in the 2022 Mario vs. Luigi Tour, while the latter was added in the 2022 Halloween Tour. In the R/T variant, there are big Piranha Plants along the course.

    •   "Parts of the guard walls fall away as you bump them, making the track tougher as the race goes on."
    •   "If you drive as fast as you can, you might prevent fear from setting in. With Boos overhead, collapsing sides around the track and darkness below, there's plenty to be scared of in Ghost Valley!"
