A Pipe Cannon from New Super Mario Bros.

Pipe Cannons[1] are Pipes that appear in Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. 2, New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U. They are Warp Pipes that, when entered, launch the player to another location (usually another part of the level).

Mario being launched from a Pipe Cannon

In Super Mario World, Pipe Cannons are always on a slant and fire Mario or Luigi to very far places (about two or three screens away). The pipes here cannot be entered and are always exited via a different pipe, mostly from an underground area.

The Pipe Cannons from New Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. 2 and New Super Mario Bros. U are similar to the Warp Cannons used to travel to a different world, except they fire the player within a much smaller range. To use these pipes, unlike in Super Mario World, players are to enter one and then are automatically fired off, often to an unreachable ledge, platform, or even a different area. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, another type of Pipe Cannon makes an appearance in the 1-up Blast mini-games. Characters enter these cannons and aim before they blast themselves and attempt to pop balloons to earn 1-Ups. In New Super Mario Bros. 2, Pipe Cannons are also used to reach the Rainbow World, and in New Super Mario Bros. U, there are Pipe Cannons on the world map, which are used as shortcuts to completed worlds, or to get to Secret Island and Superstar Road.

Pipe Cannon to the left found in Airship Fortress

In Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 7, the course Airship Fortress contains a Pipe Cannon, which shoots the player to the tower near the Airship.

In Super Mario 3D World and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, some Clear Pipes, known as Clear Pipe Cannons, have the ability to launch the player in a very similar manner to Pipe Cannons. Additionally, if a player jumps into a Cloud Cannon, it will produce a white Pipe Cannon which launches the player into a Coin Heaven.

In Remix 10 mode of Super Mario Run, on random occasions, when entering a pipe to go to the next area on the map screen, it may turn out to be a Pipe Cannon, launching Mario into the sky.

In Mario Tennis Aces, Luigi shoots out of a Pipe Cannon in his Special Shot.[2]
