Trick doors[1], also known as fake doors[2] and Ghost-Doors,[3] are door projections created by Boos that appear in all installments of the New Super Mario Bros. series except New Super Mario Bros., and in Super Mario Run. They can only be found in Ghost Houses, and look identical to real doors. Attempting to open one makes it dissipate into four cackling Boos and release a coin before vanishing.
Trick doors appear in every Ghost House from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, except World
Coin-3, and in every Ghost House from New Super Mario Bros. U. Only one trick door can be found in New Super Luigi U, appearing in Vanishing Ghost House. These roles are reprised in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. In Super Mario Run, they only appear in Ghost-Door Deception and can be distinguished from real doors as trick doors shake periodically.
Conceptually, trick doors resemble illusions from Super Mario 3D World and return in Super Mario Bros. Wonder in the form of Noknoks.
