Effect Grab the edge of a solid platform, then roll to get over it.
Input method Touch top of edge of a solid platform while airborne
Performed before Climbing Jump

Edge Climbing is a move in Super Mario Run. If the player character is airborne, and their upper body touches the top of any solid platform, this move is automatically used to grab the edge. After a short time, the character pulls themselves onto the top of the platform, performing a roll in the process. The rolling portion is a stylish move, so it produces blue stars that contribute to starting a Coin Rush. As with the Landing Roll, it defeats enemies that it touches. As Super Mario is taller than Small Mario, the former form can reach certain platform edges that the latter cannot.

While holding onto the edge, the player can tap the screen to perform a Climbing Jump. This jump can defeat enemies while rising, and is also a stylish move. The presence of the Climbing Jump also means the player cannot Wall Jump while Edge Climbing. As such, to Wall Jump from an edge, the player has to jump before they grab the edge.

If Toad uses Edge Climbing on certain platforms consisting of only one block, the roll will cause him to tumble off. This is presumably due to his higher movement speed compared to other characters. If this happens, Toad is trapped in the rolling state until he lands with a Landing Roll, with no inputs being accepted while falling except for the Midair Stall. Small Mario can also be affected by this, but only by certain blocks. One such block appears in Pokey Vaulting, in its Pink Coin version.
