"Lava Theme",[2] also known as "Volcano BGM",[3][4] is a musical theme composed by Kenta Nagata for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where it plays in the volcano levels. This theme succeeds "Volcano Theme" from New Super Mario Bros., and would make numerous reappearances throughout the New Super Mario Bros. series. This theme quotes its predecessor from New Super Mario Bros. at the beginning of its sitar section.

In New Super Mario Bros. 2, the original version of "Lava Theme" plays in the volcano levels.

A woodblock beat is added to the instrumentation whenever Mario or Luigi are in their Raccoon/Fox forms.

A bell synth arpeggiator is added to the instrumentation whenever the Gold Ring is active.

In New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, the original version of "Lava Theme" plays in the volcano levels.

Vocalizations are added to the instrumentation whenever the player is holding onto a Baby Yoshi. This remix is titled "Lava Theme (Baby Yoshi)" in the Nintendo Music app.

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition[edit]

In Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, the original version of "Lava Theme" plays in the volcano levels.

Mario Kart World[edit]

In Mario Kart World, a funk metal arrangement of "Lava Theme" can play in Free Roam during the day, on the route from Shy Guy Bazaar to Wario Stadium in the Flower Cup, and on VS Race routes coming from Desert Hills and Shy Guy Bazaar during the day. It is titled "Volcano BGM (New Super Mario Bros. Wii)" in the Nintendo Music app.
