King K. Rool, Donkey Kong Bananza

K. Rool, King of Rot is the form King K. Rool takes during the final boss fight of Donkey Kong Bananza. In this form, K. Rool's skin turns gold, he gains a double chin, his tail gains some scutes, both his eyes become bloodshot (though his left eye remains larger than his right one), and his belly armor cracks more severely than his previous form, Core King K. Rool. He additionally wears black pants, a crown made of bananas, and a cape of dark tendrils.

After Donkey Kong and Pauline reach K. Rool at his boxing arena (an homage to his arena during his final boss battle in Donkey Kong 64) in New Donk City, K. Rool absorbs the Banandium Root while pounding his belly, transforming into the King of Rot. Similarly to the fight against King K. Rool at the Planet Core, he attacks by using a triple-barreled blunderbuss that shoots Banandium Mush alongside cannonballs. He also summons hands made of Banandium Mush.

During the fight, K. Rool can revert to his normal form if he is hit by one of his blunderbuss's cannonballs, staying dizzy for a few seconds before pounding on his belly to transform back into the King of Rot. Standing too close to him as he does this will damage Donkey Kong.

Battle[edit]

K. Rool, King of Rot functions as a significantly more difficult variant of the previous battle with K. Rool in the Planet Core, both utilizing attacks from its final phase as well as new moves. In his first phase, K. Rool will always fire three cannonballs spreading Banandium Mush as opposed to before, where he initially fired only one. These cannonballs can still be punched back his way to stun him. In a reference to Kaptain K. Rool, the cannonballs change trajectory in each phase - bouncing up and down in the second, and finally spiraling in different directions in the third. He will also still use his blunderbuss to inhale any debris (and DK if within his radius) akin to before, and incoming projectiles will still stun him, albeit for a shorter period of time.

Additionally, K. Rool, King of Rot features three new attacks not present in his previous battle: he will shoot cannonballs upward for them to plant onto the ground and cover the battlefield with Banandium Mush, leaving only a small radius near the projectiles. He will then summon a wave of large arms comprised of Banandium Mush, which can be dispersed using either K. Rool's cannonballs or the Elephant Bananza's Trunk Chunk attack. In succession, K. Rool will then teleport across the arena to summon an additional arm to fall onto the battlefield, leaving a small window of time for DK to throw a projectile at him. K. Rool will always shoot a larger cannonball succeeding this, which still stuns him; this time however, he will launch moving walls of gold to attempt pushing DK away from him during his vulnerable state.

K. Rool, King of Rot displays a pattern of moves - he will always fire three cannonballs twice, cover the arena in Banandium Mush and bring forth a wave of arms, teleport about, launch a large cannonball, and finally inhale debris regardless if he is stunned or not, a pattern that repeats even within later phases.

K. Rool, King of Rot's boss theme is a different and extended variant of Core King K. Rool's theme, now incorporating a reprise of "Crocodile Cacophony (K. Rool's Theme)" from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.
