The Tempest Layer is the tenth layer in the Underground World of Donkey Kong Bananza, occupying sublayers 900 to 903. This layer is populated by elephants. It is home to the Elephant Elder, who resides at Sublayer 900 within Forecaster Refuge.
It is also home to the Singing Blusterwing, a legendary bird-like creature who has the ability to control the weather. Void Company had used a Batteroid-like mask, similar to the Mind-Bender Mask, to corrupt it into the Sinister Blusterwing; it then features as a reoccurring boss while traveling throughout the layer, being fought a total of three times.
The layer is made primarily of blue and gray stone, much of which is shaped like the heads, trunks, and tusks of elephants, along with a large amount of full-body stone formations resembling real-world elephants. Windsocks and flags are scattered throughout the layer. Lava features abundantly in all four sublayers, and it is always raining in sublayers 900 and 902, the latter of which also features lightning as a hazard. Both these sublayers also have a number of tornadoes.

Banandium Gems[edit]

There are a total of seventy-eight Banandium Gems (sixty-six regular gems and four bunches of 3) in the Tempest Layer. During Donkey Kong's first visit to this layer, he can collect fifty-nine Banandium Gems and three bunches of 3 Gems. After Donkey Kong defeats King K. Rool in New Donk City and collects at least 500 Banandium Gems, seven more Gems and another bunch of 3 Gems become available to collect as part of the Elephant Elder's Rehearsal.

Only a moment later, the enormous boulder in front of us turned our way. It turned out to be a local—one which was many times bigger than us.

- Keep Your Nose in the Know! Facts for Weather Forecasting: Permanent Fiery Rain Advisory: Warning! Because this cavern is below a bed of lava, it seeps through the roof as fiery rain that falls on this entire area. This shouldn't be a surprise, but when the drops of lava make direct contact with your hide...it hurts! A lot! We have noticed some grassy spots that remain unburned thanks to natural rock formations providing overhead cover. We recommend staying within these zones for safety, but if you have a need to explore the larger cavern... simply hold a chunk of terrain over your head to stay unscalded. It's like nature's umbrella! Sort of!
- Minor Meteorological Musings: Trunk-Dunk Hot Springs: The heat from our layer's lava keeps Trunk-Dunk Hot Springs at a blissful, rejuvenatingly warm temperature. A good long soak has been known to soothe aches and pains...and may help you work up an appetite for bananas. Simply slip into the springs and remain perfectly still to enjoy a soothing soak. Its healing effect should kick in shortly!
- Saga of the Exploritone, Verse 16: We have been told of a massive bird on this layer that can control the weather... The equally massive "elephants" here live alongside this bird, observing the weather and conducting experiments. We had some of the trainee forecasters predict the weather for us. The verdict was that the road ahead for us, as well as our destination, would see "sunny skies."
- Minor Meteorological Musings: Elephant-Shaped Rocks: This area features several prominent rock formations...with familiar shapes! The large rocks protect the areas beneath them, making them ideal rest-stop locations that are safe to explore. If you're able to stand atop them, they also provide a fantastic view of the larger area. Thank you, rocky cousins!
- Keep Your Nose in the Know! Facts for Weather Forecasting: Shocking Lightning Strategies: When Lightning strikes, it can cause significant damage—especially in open areas without coverage! If you're watching the weather and a lightning strike is imminent, grab and hold a chunk of terrain to stay safe. Be extra cautious while standing in water or on slippery iron. The lightning might electrify the whole spot in a flash! Remember, if you find yourself in a lightning storm, stay out of the water, and grab some cover!

- Saga of the Exploritone, Verse 17: With umbrellas held in their trunks, the elephants guided us to the sinkhole... The weather and scenery has changed constantly since our arrival. Sometimes it snows. Sometimes there is lightning. But when we arrived at the sinkhole, the skies were completely clear.
