Surf Surf

Turf Surfing[1] is one of Donkey Kong's abilities in Donkey Kong Bananza. While holding a chunk of terrain or some other carriable object, he can stand on top of it and "surf" it on a surface, allowing him to move faster than on foot, break through weaker objects, and safely overcome dangerous terrain, such as thorns. He also grabs any collectable items he rides the object into, including gold and Banandium Chips. The object erodes while surfing it on solid terrain, becoming increasingly smaller, with the rate at which it wears away being determined by the durability of its material. Consequently, indestructible objects such as chunks of metal and statues can be ridden indefinitely.

While Donkey Kong is Turf Surfing, he can jump, briefly speed up with Y Button, and dismount the object with ZL Button. While speeding up, Turf Surfing becomes a form of attack, as doing so while charging into an enemy can damage or defeat it; however, Turf Surfing has little impact on harder types of surrounding terrain, outside of leaving trails on some surfaces. At the same time as he dismounts an object, Donkey Kong automatically resumes holding it.

Mine Cart rails can also be navigated with Turf Surf; however, this is slower since Donkey Kong cannot speed up with Y Button while on rails, and the terrain chunk will eventually be worn away completely. Additionally, he cannot do this on the Mine Cart rails in the Planet Core, and will fall through them instead if he attempts this.

A variation of this ability, called the Surf Surf, unlocked with Skill Points, enables Donkey Kong to ride any carriable object on the surface of water. During this, the object does not wear away. DK can ride the surfboards found at DK Island on water without this upgrade, but cannot use them on solid terrain at all.
