Batteroids are bat-like enemies in Donkey Kong Bananza. They are monsters created by Void Co. that resemble oversized bat skeletons covered in Gloo Gum adorned with decorative circular patterns. They initially appear wearing metallic masks featuring purple accents. Batteroids are first encountered in the Tempest Layer.

Batteroids usually appear hanging from ceilings. When Donkey Kong approaches, they will begin flying around him before attacking by diving towards him. Because their bodies are covered in Gloo Gum, Donkey Kong can throw a chunk of any terrain at them, which upon contact will cause a Batteroid to rapidly plummet from the air. Once landing, their mask and Gloo Gum-covered bodies will be destroyed, stunning them and revealing a golden bat skeleton that Donkey Kong can easily defeat with a punch or Roll Attack. If not defeated, they will eventually recover and regain their original form before attacking once again.

Batteroids are replaced with Neckys wearing Gloo Gum in the Planet Core and New Donk City.

Naming[edit]

The English name is a pun on "batter", a verb meaning "to beat with successive blows", and "bat", the type of animal they resemble. The name also includes the "-oid" suffix that is shared by most enemies found in the Underground World, in reference to the Void Company which created them.
