The Sinister Blusterwing is a recurring boss in Donkey Kong Bananza which appears in the Tempest Layer, being encountered a total of three times throughout. It is the form that the Singing Blusterwing takes while under the mind-control of a mask created by Void Company. The mask resembles the face of a Batteroid and also covers the Blusterwing's wings in Gloo Gum, making it resemble a large version of the aforementioned enemy. This mask is similar to the Mind-Bender Mask used to brainwash the Great Harmoneel.[1]

In order to damage the boss, Donkey Kong must hit its wings with enough terrain chunks in order to knock it to the ground, which causes the mask's mouth to open, and exposes the Void Stake within the mask to attacks. This is similar to how Batteroids are defeated, albeit with the latter being downed with only one chunk and being defeated in one hit afterwards.

The Sinister Blusterwing's attacks consist of spewing straight lines of terrain out of its mouth to hit Donkey Kong, spinning around to create tornadoes, and flapping its wings rapidly to create a large gust of wind to try and push Donkey Kong off of the platform onto lava or electrified iron.

After Donkey Kong raises the Ancient Record's altar in sublayer 900 and steps onto the seemingly empty altar, the Sinister Blusterwing appears and starts the first fight. The terrain it spews for this fight is sand. Once about 45% of its health has been depleted, it crashes through the altar, leaving behind a hole that leads to Hot-Shower Cave in sublayer 901 and spitting out the Ancient Record it swallowed, now broken into two halves. The hole also has a whirling wind current which Donkey Kong must Dive Punch past.

After making it through Hot-Shower Cave, Donkey Kong and Pauline fall into a pit, and the Sinister Blusterwing reappears and starts the second fight. The terrain that it spews this time is lava, which Donkey Kong can Inhale with the Elephant Bananza in order to throw the resulting obsidian at the Sinister Blusterwing. It retains the health it had at the end of its first encounter; once depleted to a small amount, the boss crashes through the metal platform into sublayer 902, leaving behind another wind current which must be passed through with a Dive Punch, and it flies off to Stormy Station.

The third and final time it is encountered is in sublayer 903, in an arena far below Stormy Station. This time, its terrain-spewing attack is replaced with a stream of electricity which will electrify the slippery Iron in a harmful trail; Donkey Kong must instead retrieve chunks of lava from the whirlwind surrounding the arena by using the Elephant Bananza, provided he does not already have any Trunk Chunks stored in his Trunk Chunk inventory. The attack also drops gold so that the Bananergy meter can be filled. The Sinister Blusterwing also now gains the ability to call down lightning strikes during its wind gust attack due to the arena being outdoors.

Once downed in this final encounter, the Sinister Blusterwing will smash through the entire arena floor and fall to the floor below, while creating a gigantic tornado to push Donkey Kong upwards constantly. He must Dive Punch until he is able to slowly reach the boss and, after being suspended above it for a few seconds, deal the final blow with a sudden burst of speed, which destroys the mask. Now freed from its mind control, the Singing Blusterwing steadily rights itself, sings in gratitude, and flies away, leaving behind the Void Stake for Donkey Kong to destroy in order to access the Landfill Layer.

During the post-game, the Sinister Blusterwing can be rematched in the Boss Rush challenge in Ingot Isle Cave-In, unlocked by paying gold to Grumpy Kong. It is the third boss in this challenge, being fought after Abracajabya and before Muckety-Muck. It is now fought in only one arena and is harder, as it gains new attacks to use while downed. However, its health bar can be depleted entirely in one round.

Even the largest creature can't resist. Did you notice the mask attached to the Blusterwing in the Tempest Layer? That was a similar brainwashing device."
