Liftoff Ore is a type of terrain that appears in Donkey Kong Bananza. It is a luminescent, rainbow-colored material that appears throughout the Underground World , first appearing in the Resort Layer. Trails of Liftoff Ore are created by Trailfinoids when they propel themselves, and defeating them causes large arches to form in the direction they are sent flying in. Donkey Kong moves slightly faster while moving on Liftoff Ore compared to other surfaces.
Like most terrain, Donkey Kong is able to tear out a chunk of Liftoff Ore from any surface it is found on. Immediately after obtaining a chunk of this terrain, Donkey Kong will begin ascending, and the player is able control his trajectory slightly as he is rising. The chunk will begin shrinking in size as soon as it is held, and eventually evaporates completely, after which Donkey Kong will fall. The player can also choose to descend immediately by throwing the chunk.
Liftoff Ore is an important resource used in the Rambi Rumble. It is tied to a meter that fills as Rambi destroys terrain on the racetrack. This meter can be spent to cause Liftoff Ore to be emitted from the Barrel Jets that are attached to the Rambis, causing them to rise into the air while greatly increasing their speed. The trails of Liftoff Ore left behind can be used by the opposing racers to gain increased speed, along with the original user on subsequent laps. This can also be used by the player to create shortcuts through the track.
