Trapantuloids are arachnid enemies in Donkey Kong Bananza, first appearing in the Radiance Layer. They are spider-like creatures created by the Void Company. They are shaped like cages and contain gold or a balloon. When idle, Trapantuloids stand still, occasionally looking around or cleaning their face. When Donkey Kong is noticed by a Trapantuloid, it will extend two poles of varying terrain (such as sand or Liftoff Ore), and begin to chase him. When Donkey Kong is in range, it will charge up its poles and unleash a spinning attack that damages him on contact. The poles are vulnerable to being destroyed by nearby terrain (destroying the terrain in the process) or attacks from Donkey Kong; however, a Trapantuloid can regenerate its poles when charging another attack. Trapantuloids are invulnerable in most areas, with the spider web-like cage bars bearing damaging spikes. They can be defeated by attacking the terrain on their tops, causing them to explode and release the gold inside.

In the DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC, a statue of a Trapantuloid can be collected and placed on the south side within the North Cave of DK Island. An Emerald Perk called "Trapantuloid Demolisher" can appear during an Emerald Rush, which increases the amount of emerald ore that appears after defeating a Trapantuloid.

Naming[edit]

"Trapantuloid" is a portmanteau of "trap", referring to their cage-like shape, and "tarantula", which refers to their arachnid basis. Their name also includes the "-oid" suffix that many enemies in the Underground World share, referencing the Void Company, their creator.
