- “Long ago, a surface dweller came here looking for the Banandium Root. The intruder forced their way through here...but never came back out.”
- —A Fractone at the Go-No-Further Gate
The Forbidden Layer is the penultimate layer of the Underground World in Donkey Kong Bananza, occupying sublayer 1500. The layer has a moderately surreal design, mostly being a void with large concrete blocks and obelisks. It is mostly populated by Fractones who will attempt to persuade Donkey Kong and Pauline to not continue any further through the layer. Various locations and landmark names reflect the same attitude, such as "Go-No-Further Gate".
Various chasms in the layer will create Fractonium trails beneath terrain thrown by Donkey Kong. In order to progress through the layer, more than 12,000 gold needs to be paid to the Securitones. Once paid, a Securitone creates a region surrounding them that causes thrown chunks of terrain to leave trails of Passage Stone, which can be used to traverse throughout the layer.
Following the fight against Void Kong, Pauline inadvertently frees King K. Rool from the Banandium Root, who then dives down into the Planet Core.

Signs[edit]
- Begone, intruders... The concrete towers found here are antitrespassing measures. They are constructed of concrete. Standard strength cannot destroy them. Take the hint, and leave.
- Begone, intruders... If you won't leave, at least open up your Map with
and select where you want to Teeleport to... The Li'l Elevators will take you there. Then you can return to the entrance, take the hint... and leave.
- Begone, intruders... If you won't leave, you must pay for your intrusion with gold. For enough gold, we will give you the power to create throw zones. Within those zones, thrown chunks will create trails... but navigating our many antitrespassing measures is impossible. Take the hint! LEAVE!
- Saga of the Exploritone, Verse 28: This time, we're certain that we have arrived at the origin of Us... Although... there's no one here. We hoped we'd get to meet the original Fractones still living here, but... nothing. It is a desolate place. Our saga ends here. We will have look round for any stray clues. If we find none, we will head back home to the Hilltop Layer.
