List of fictional languages

The following is a list of fictional languages from Super Mario games that use substitution ciphers for the Latin alphabet in order to write text. When translated, these texts usually feature English or Japanese sentences, or are made up of random characters.

Super Mario Sunshine

In Super Mario Sunshine, several signs on Isle Delfino are written in a unique decipherable script. This writing system exists alongside other signs containing English and Italian text. The letters in the script are made up of spirals and waves, resembling seashells and the ocean. Due to that and its prevalence in Pinna Park and Noki Bay, the script may be associated with the Noki themselves.

A horizontal texture located alongside cliff walls in Noki Bay contains all letters in the script in alphabetical order, although the small size of the texture renders most letters illegible. A few letters (i.e. those spelling "Bar", "Mamma" and "Gelato") appear as 3D models on the Sand Cabana, making them seem more jagged than their texture counterparts. The R letter in the Noki Bay flag also features a slightly different design, with a mirrored vertical bar compared to other signs in the game.

Added to Mario Kart 8 in the The Legend of Zelda × Mario Kart 8 DLC pack and included in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at launch, Hyrule Circuit features a handful of uses of Hylian, the fictional language from The Legend of Zelda series. While multiple complete 26-character sets fo Hylian are used in The Legend of Zelda games, Mario Kart 8 only uses a handful of glyphs from the set used in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and later titles.

Yoshi series

Yoshi's Crafted World

• Add and transcribe the rest of the textures from the game
• Fill out all missing Japanese translations

Requested improvements must be clear, pertinent, and well-formed. Please refrain from adding bullet points such as "Add more information" or "Write the rest of the article".

Throughout Yoshi's Crafted World, a cipher for the Latin alphabet can be found on the various craft materials and fictional products that comprise the environments of the game. A full set of uppercase and lowercase letters are present in the alphabet, as well as numbers.

When decoded into the normal Latin alphabet, product blurbs and information for the fictional products seen in the game can be read. These blurbs are typically written in broken English, with some instances of Japanese (written in rōmaji) and broken Italian also being found. Newspaper clippings featuring lorem ipsum placeholder text are also present within the game.

Some characters in the script notably contain resemblance to certain Japanese characters:

• The glyphs (C c) resemble the hiragana し (shi).
• The glyph (E) resembles the hiragana え (e).
• The glyphs (G g) resemble the hiragana じ (ji).
• The glyphs (K k) resemble the katakana ケ (ke).
• The glyph (T) resembles the katakana テ (te).
• The glyphs (U u) resemble the katakana ユ (yu).
• The glyph (2) resembles the kanji 二 (ni), which represents the number 2.
• The glyph (7) resembles the katakana ナ (na), derived from 七 (nana, "seven").

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book

Several words floating on the screen. The largest of which can only be partially deciphered as _LATHL_ET_C_.

In Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, a unique cipher appears in various sentences written inside Mr. E's pages. These glyphs appear next to discoveries written on Mr. E, floating in the foreground and background while exploring a creature's habitat, and in the form of the game's currency, the tokens. Although the text presented in the original game appears to be undecipherable, most of the words found in its Tetris 99 theme match their respective English words in the default theme. This allows for a partial cipher key consisting of 15 letters and the exclamation mark. The glyph corresponding to the letter A is also used as the icon representing tokens in general.
