Gloominoids are arthropodic enemies in Donkey Kong Bananza, first appearing in the Radiance Layer. They are monsters created by Void Co. that resemble scorpions made of a purple, extremely durable material called Shade Ore. Their long tails feature a stinger at the tip shaped like a crescent moon, and can extend a considerable distance.
Gloominoids remain completely stationary until they spot Donkey Kong, after which they will move towards him. They attack by quickly thrusting their tails forward, damaging Donkey Kong if connects. Because they are made of Shade Ore, which cannot be destroyed through normal means, Donkey Kong must either lure Gloominoids into a spot with synthetic sunlight or approach them while holding a chunk of Glow Stone to weaken and immobilize them before defeating them with a punch or a Roll Attack. Gloominoids can also be defeated immediately by throwing a chunk of Glow Stone at them.

Naming[edit]
The English name is based on the word "gloom", referring to partial or total darkness, which hints at their weakness to light sources. The name includes the "-oid" suffix that is shared by most enemies found in the Underground World, in reference to the Void Company which created them.
