Chunks[1] are giant slabs of terrain and other materials that act as a major gameplay aspect in Donkey Kong Bananza, effectively replacing the barrels used in most games. They can be obtained in numerous ways, including simply yanking them out from the ground itself. Chunks' size, composition, and shape varies in how they are obtained, with most being amorphous and ones obtained from amiibo being spherical. Chunks of differing materials have varying strengths as well as other properties; for instance, mud chunks are far softer than stone chunks, while gold chunks and Boom Rock chunks are more explosive than most others. They can be thrown at and otherwise used to attack other objects and terrain, ridden atop while they spin in a move known as the Turf Surf, or leapt from to gain more altitude in a move known as the Chunk Jump. Sturdier chunks tend to damage objects they are thrown at, while soft chunks can stick together consecutively to form a bridge. Certain enemies such as Buzzoids can also use chunks.
