"Golden Bananas?!"[edit]
- Tasty rumors have led prospecting monkeys to a strange isle...
Adventure Hints[edit]
- To see a list of DK's possible actions, open the Pause Menu with
and then select Controls/Actions.
- You can punch in three different directions:
for forward,
for upward, and
for downward. Check your surroundings, and punch with purpose!
- If you find a spot that seems suspicious, give it a punch or two. Who knows? You might unearth something helpful.
- As you destroy terrain, you might also dig up gold, unearth healing apples, or reveal buried treasure chests with rare items inside.
- Punch a Giant Apple or Banandium Melon with
to take a bite. There may be some edible types of terrain out there too...
- Banandium Melons will always regenerate and never run out, no matter how much you eat!
- Red Balloons will save you from falling over edges and return you to solid ground without taking damage.
- If DK remains still while standing on a chair or bench, he'll sit down for a rest and slowly recover his health.
- You'll find some types of terrain in the Underground World that cannot be destroyed, no matter how hard you strike them.
- If you want to restore everything you've smashed in a layer, just open the Map with
and press
to reset the terrain.
- Walls made of sand are slippery and difficult to climb...but not impossible to climb! With a little effort, you might be able to scale them.
- Walls of iron, ice, or mud are too slick and slippery to climb, no matter how hard you try.
- Vertical tunnels called sinkholes will take you deeper and deeper through the many layers and sublayers of the Underground World.
- Each layer has Challenge Course ruins, and each course hides three Banandium Gems. Explore until you find them all!
- Special ruins called Bonus Stages are hidden in obscure corners throughout the world. If you find one, make the most of it!
- If you hold
to tear off a chunk of ground-bound gold bullion, you can then throw it for a surprisingly explosive impact!
- DK can't be harmed by any Boom Bombs that he wields or throws himself. (Phew...)
- Holding a chunk will allow you to guard against enemy attacks, but stronger attacks will knock the chunk out of your hands.
- You can attack in three directions while holding a chunk. Don't just swing in front of you—remember to use
to swing upward and
to swing downward too!
- If you're holding a chunk, you can use it to jump a second time in midair. Just press
then
again to throw it below you and perform a Chunk Jump!
- After you press
to Turf Surf on a chunk, you can speed up with
to smash into smaller enemies and send them flying.
- If you time it right, you can catch the chunks that buzzing, airborne baddies throw at you by pressing
.
- If a certain enemy gives you trouble, stock up on Apple Juice at a Stuff Shop and try again.
- When you punch a spiral-shelled Rolluskoid, it'll plow a path through the terrain as it rolls away.
- The scorpion-like Gloominoids grow shy and brittle when hit by direct light. While they're vulnerable, you can use
to grab a chunk of their hide.
- Void Kong can use his All-Mine Remote to create powerful terrain-based enemies.
- If you hold
to Glare during Snake Bananza, you can bounce through hazards in slow motion.
- When an iron ball comes flying toward you, a well-timed punch with Kong Bananza can send it flying right back!
- Throw gold bullion to blast Banandium Mush away, or vacuum it up with Elephant Bananza.
- The gold and bananas found throughout the Underground World are all made of the same mysterious, precious mineral: Banandium.
- The "gold" found throughout the Underground World is actually a near-identical and equally valuable mineral named Banandium Gold.
- You can see all of the Banandium Gems and fossils you've obtained by opening the Map with
and then pressing
to view your Collection.
- Fossils can be found throughout the larger layers. Dig up as many as you can find, then use them to buy new looks at the nearest Style Shop!
- The larger layers always have one ridiculously huge extra-rare fossil hiding somewhere. If you find one, smash and dig until it's fully unearthed!
- Fossils can be spent only within the layers where they were found. Don't hesitate to exchange them for new fashions at local Style Shops!
- Outfits and fashion accessories let you play with new looks, and some will equip you with bonuses or gameplay effects.
- If you're in need of poison-proof britches, the Forest Layer's Style Shop sells some that will reduce any damage caused by poison water.
- The Tempest Layer has britches for sale that will reduce your burn damage when touching lava.
- You can often build several Getaways in a single layer. Try to build as many as you can—then you'll always have a home away from home!
- Discs contain unique music tracks that can be played at any of your Getaways. There are over 100 different tracks to collect!
- You can check DK's list of skills at any time on the Skills Menu with
.
- If you want to reset the skills you've learned, just ask one of the Underground World's animal elders for help.
- The Elders can help you reset and reassign all of your Skill Points.
- If you're having trouble with the controls or the camera, you can change their settings by pressing
to open the Pause Menu and selecting Options.
- During single-player mode, you can press
to enter Photo Mode and get a better view of the surrounding area from a variety of angles.
- In Assist Mode, the route to your next destination will be displayed automatically.
- In Assist Mode, you will automatically recover health while standing still.
- In Assist Mode, when you hold
to aim a chunk, your aim will line up with your target much more easily.
- While present on DK's back, Pauline can be controlled by a second player. Just switch to Co-op Play from the Pause Menu by pressing
!
- During Co-op Play, a second player controls Pauline and can attack by aiming and firing vocal blasts in physical form.
- Select DK Artist on the game's title screen to sculpt, create, and play using the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls.
Diddy Kong & Dixie Kong[edit]
- A couple of carefree Kongs who are two of DK's closest friends.
DK (Donkey Kong)[edit]
- As long as it's not rotten or mushy, this strong Kong will eat any banana he sees!
Eel Family[edit]
- Subterranean eels who burrow and play throughout the Underground World.
Grumpy Kong[edit]
- Director of manufacturing for Void Company and the craftsman behind its terrain-based soldiers.
- He's surprisingly good with plants—enough to cultivate new kinds of corporate soldiers.
King K. Rool[edit]
- The leader of the Kremling Krew. Surprisingly sophisticated behind his too-short temper.
- Loves bananas as much as DK but only when they're rotten and mushy.
Pauline[edit]
- A 13-year-old girl from the surface who loves singing.
- With their new Bananza power, her singing can make DK transform.
- Superior hearing and perfect pitch help her understand the spoken languages of the Underground World.
- Thanks to her adventure with DK, she's grown much more confident in herself.
Poppy Kong[edit]
- Director of intelligence for Void Company and an advocate for their stealth-perfume tech.
- Sly and independent, she hides the true nature of her work from everyone.
- Now resigned from Void Company, she's exploring the Underground World on her own.
Void Kong[edit]
- President of Void Company, the surface world's mightiest mining operation.
- Impatient to a fault, he constantly undermines and micromanages his employees.
- To replace his struggling staff, he's brainwashing the Underground World's monstrous creatures.
- His mining company struggled until he found and exploited the Banandium Root's golden tendrils.
