- “What a sweet treat! Your zebra skills are cooler than cool!”
- —Zebra Elder, Donkey Kong Bananza
The Zebra Bananza is a Bananza that Donkey Kong can activate in Donkey Kong Bananza to transform into a large zebra. It is taught by the Zebra Elder in the Freezer Layer, Sublayer 501, and can be either the second or third Bananza learned, depending on choosing whether to go to the Freezer Layer or the Forest Layer first from The Divide.
This form increases Donkey Kong's movement speed, is unaffected by the slowing effects of mud and fresh snow, has perfect traction on ice, can cross crumbly terrain without immediately falling through, and is able to run across the surface of water, including freezing or poison water. However, he will still take damage when crossing either of the latter two.
By holding and then releasing, Donkey Kong can Charge Dash. The amount of time it lasts for can be increased by upgrading with Skill Points. If he touches a climbable wall while a Charge Dash is active, he will quickly scale it, allowing him to traverse downward-traveling conveyors more easily. Charge Dash also functions as an attack, and will defeat most minor enemies hit by it. However, Crockoids, Stompoids and Kritters must have their shells removed first, and Batteroids and Neckies must be grounded before it will affect them.
The Zebra Bananza has three skills unlockable with Skill Points: Brake Blast is activated by tilting in the opposite direction while moving and sends out a destructive shockwave. Spin Slam is an upgraded version of the Spin Attack involving holding
while spinning with a terrain chunk, which is more destructive on terrain and can defeat enemies more easily. Spin Shot is an upgraded version of Donkey Kong's spinning throw which allows the thrown chunk to effectively pierce terrain, creating tunnels with ease.
In addition, if the player holds the Punch Downward button ( by default,
if swapped with Jump) while spinning with a chunk held, Donkey Kong in this form can drill downwards, allowing him to charge through terrain at high speed.
