Trailfinoids are elasmobranch enemies in Donkey Kong Bananza. They are monsters created by Void Co. that resemble sharks, though they primarily appear on land, and feature a jet engine in place of a caudal fin. Trailfinoids are first encountered in the Resort Layer.

Trailfinoids initially move slowly by crawling along the ground. Upon seeing Donkey Kong, they will pause to charge their engine before quickly launching forward, damaging him on contact and leaving a trail of Liftoff Ore in their wake. If a Trailfinoid fails to make contact after launching, they will spin out and briefly get their head stuck in the ground, allowing Donkey Kong to easily defeat them with a punch or Roll Attack. Defeated Trailfinoids will be sent flying at high speed, creating a large arc of Liftoff Ore behind them that can be traversed and utilized by Donkey Kong, and will remain in place until the terrain is reset.

Naming

The English name is a portmanteau of "tail fin" (which, ironically, Trailfinoids do not possess) and "trail", referencing the trails of Liftoff Ore they emit. The name also includes the "-oid" suffix that is shared by most enemies found in the Underground World, in reference to the Void Company which created them.
