- “You apes always spoil my plans... Bwah ha ha! At last, my Mega Amp is complete! It'll crush you but good! Bwah hah hah!”
- —King K. Rool, DK: Jungle Climber
The Mega Amp is an enormous robot whose design is based upon King K. Rool. It was built by K. Rool and his minions and is fought twice as a boss in DK: Jungle Climber.
The Mega Amp has a blue forehead with a single yellow plate in the center with two moving pegs, white headlights for eyes, two antennas on either side of its head, a blue cape with a gem in the middle, and a machine gun that can shoot out energy balls for a left arm. At the top is a yellow cockpit in which a Kritter pilots the Mega Amp.
During its first appearance, the Mega Amp is incomplete, with machinery visible inside its body; numerous pegs and Peg Boards are on the Mega Amp's body and left arm. In its second appearance, the newly complete Mega Amp gains a yellow belly with two grids near the bottom, as well as a drill for a right arm; several pegs are also present on its right arm.
History[edit]
The Mega Amp first appears as the boss of Ghost Island, in the level Panic Factory. Once the Kongs enter the boss room, King K. Rool has one of his Kritter henchmen gain power from a Crystal Banana and enter the cockpit of the Mega Amp. K. Rool mentions that the Mega Amp was only partially finished being constructed.
In order to damage the Mega Amp, Donkey Kong, while avoiding energy balls shot from the Mega Amp's left arm and bombs raining down, needs to scale the Mega Amp so he can unscrew a metal plate on the Mega Amp's belly and pull down a Jack Peg below the jewel in its cape. Both of these actions reveal a red button behind the mechanism, which Donkey Kong must attack to deal one point of damage for each button. After both buttons are revealed and attacked, the Mega Amp breaks down; the Kritter pilot also exits the cockpit and begins throwing bombs. Donkey Kong must then scale the Mega Amp's head and attack the Kritter to defeat and destroy the Mega Amp, allowing him to collect the second Crystal Banana.
The Mega Amp is fought again in the level King Kruizer IV, now complete and operated by another powered-up Kritter. The battle is largely the same as the first battle with the Mega Amp, with several key differences: mines rain down from the sky instead of bombs, the Mega Amp can attack Donkey Kong by spinning the drill on its right arm, and a third red button is added behind a metal plate near the top of its right arm that needs to be unscrewed. After attacking all three red buttons and then the Kritter, the Mega Amp is destroyed for the second time, allowing Donkey Kong to collect the fourth Crystal Banana.
