DK: Jungle Climber levels

Panic Factory is the fifth level of the world Ghost Island where Donkey and Diddy Kong venture through in DK: Jungle Climber. It takes place in a sinister factory within a dead forest. Levers, moving pegs, and steel girders are common throughout this level. This level's sprites and music later appear in Little Ghost Island and one of Booster Battle's levels. The incomplete Mega Amp is the boss for this level. Enemies in this level include Zingers and Kritters.

Layout[edit]

The Kongs start out in a haunted forest area, where several Peg Boards and a Zinger appear to their right. To the right of the Peg Boards are several single pegs, with the first Banana Coin appearing near a peg at the bottom right. Going upward leads to several pegs rotating in formation, as well as some moving Peg Boards and Zingers; the letter K is above a platform to the right of the pegs and can be obtained by grabbing a moving Peg Board and the peg next to the letter. Above them is a large Peg Board with a Switch Peg; the Kongs must defeat a Kritter guarding the Switch Peg to pull it down and gain access to the factory entrance in the top right. If the Kongs climb onto the platform directly above their staring position, they can find some rotating and static pegs that they can use to reach the top of the area and the second Banana Coin, alongside some Bananas.

The second area contains several pegs moving on a long conveyor, which the Kongs must use to traverse some spikes on the floor. On the conveyor's right end is a vertical conveyor which leads to some platforms above; the Kongs can collect the third Banana Coin by jumping to the top right after the pegs on the vertical conveyor start moving down. Two vertical peg conveyors are above these platforms, which the Kongs can ride to the top and launch off to collect the letter O; three more peg conveyors, one vertical and two horizontal, and a Zinger are to the left of the platforms, which lead to another platform with a diagonal peg conveyor above it. Above the diagonal conveyor are two more horizontal conveyors and a Zinger; jumping off the topmost conveyor when it reaches the left allows the Kongs to land on a platform and walk to the left to access a secret room. The secret room contains a DK Barrel, a Hammer, many Peg Boards, and some Iron Barrels; if Diddy Kong can break all the Iron Barrels and collect the gems within, the level's DK Coin appears near the top of the room, above the Peg Boards. The entrance to the next section is to the right of the topmost conveyor.

At the beginning of the third area, there is a Kritter, followed by some pegs and Peg Boards above it; they can scale them to reach a screw they must turn counterclockwise to partially loosen a metal bar. If the Kongs move to the right of the Kritter, they can find the letter N next to a flimsy peg near the bottom. On the bottom right is another Kritter, with the fourth Banana Coin on a ledge above it; the Kongs can obtain it by jumping off a nearby Peg Board or with a Diddy Attack. Some pegs and Peg Boards above this Kritter lead to a third Kritter guarding another screw. By turning this one counterclockwise, they will cause the metal bar to fall and be able to jump into a Cannon Barrel, which fires them into the next area.

The fourth section features a crane which holds up a Peg Board. When the Kongs spin on it, they cause the Peg Board to rotate and move upward past a DK Barrel; if they fall off, they lose a life. Jumping to the top left after the Peg Board reaches the top allows the Kongs to collect the fifth Banana Coin. The Peg Board then moves to the right above a long pit of spikes and past two Kritters on platforms, the second of which has the letter G above it. After a certain distance, the Peg Board moves above some Peg Boards and unstable pegs. The Kongs can climb across these pegs, back onto the moving Peg Board, and jump into an alcove near the top to find the level's oil barrel just before the board reaches the end of its path. When they arrive at the end, the Kongs must pull down a Switch Peg atop some Peg Boards (near which is a DK Barrel) to open the door to the boss fight.

Upon entering the final room, a cutscene plays in which the Kongs and Xananab confront King K. Rool; K. Rool has one of his Kritters gain power from a Crystal Banana and enter the cockpit of the incomplete Mega Amp. The Kongs must unscrew a metal plate on the boss and move a Jack Peg down to reveal two red buttons, then attack them, all the while evading energy balls shot from the Mega Amp's arm and bombs that rain down on the field. When the Kongs reveal and attack both buttons, the Mega Amp malfunctions and the Kritter exits the cockpit, throwing bombs. The Kongs must scale the Mega Amp and strike the now-vulnerable Kritter to defeat it, allowing them to collect the second Crystal Banana.
