“Buh-wha? This is Plantaen! We're on my home planet!”
Xananab, DK: Jungle Climber

Planet Plantaen is the third and final level of the Wormhole as well as the final level of Story Mode in DK: Jungle Climber. It is a banana-shaped planet mostly forested with palm trees from which Xananab and his species originate. Throughout the level, many dwellings resembling partially peeled bananas and banana statues resembling moai can be seen in the background.

Layout[edit]

Upon first entering the level, a cutscene plays showing King K. Rool exiting the worm hole and landing on Planet Plantaen. Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Cranky Kong, and Xananab arrive after him. Diddy Kong asks where they are, to which Xananab replies they are on Plantaen. Cranky Kong then realizes that K. Rool has already made it to the banana planet and tells Donkey and Diddy to go after him.

At the beginning of the level, the Kongs will see a stream of Peg Boards falling down and to the left. A DK Barrel is on a platform below the stream, with a Mini-Necky above the stream spitting out coconuts. Another stream of Peg Boards moving down and to the right is above this one, leading to a platform on the left. A Mini-Necky is to the right of the platform, guarding an alcove containing the first Banana Coin; the Kongs can defeat the Mini-Necky to access the alcove and collect the coin. Above the platform are more diagonally falling Peg Boards, although less of them. Scaling them leads to a small platform near the top with another Mini-Necky spitting out coconuts and the second Banana Coin above and to its right. To the right of the platform with the Mini-Necky is the exit into the second area.

When the Kongs enter the second section, they will come across a DK Barrel, which they must break open before falling down a pit and collecting some wings; two stone gates close above the pit once the Kongs pick up the wings. They should then flap to the right, all the while avoiding the mines constantly moving left near the bottom of the area. The third Banana Coin is at the top of a shaft above and near the middle of the flow of mines; it can be collected if the Kongs flap upward into the shaft. After the Kongs flap upward past the mines, they must walk to the right to find a hammer on top of a high wooden platform and collect it with a Diddy Attack. They should then climb across several Peg Boards below some rocks they can destroy to obtain gems and past a mine moving up and down. After they reach the first flimsy peg, they can jump to a single Peg Board near it and destroy the rock above it with the hammer to obtain the fourth Banana Coin. As the Kongs proceed across more flimsy pegs and Peg Boards, they come across two more mines; the first moves up and down shortly after the fourth Banana Coin, and the second moves horizontally between some flimsy pegs near the end of the section. After the pegs lies the entrance to the third section.

At the beginning of the third area are several Peg Boards falling as they move in a snakelike pattern; above them is a Mini-Necky flying back and forth, and to its right a platform with another DK Barrel. To the right of the platform are more Peg Boards falling in the same pattern; if the Kongs ride the Peg Boards to the bottom right, they will reach two pegs, the lower of which has the fifth Banana Coin near it. Another Mini-Necky which flies left and right is further up, followed by some platforms on the left and a third Mini-Necky flying left and right. Near the top is a Mini-Necky which flies down in a U formation near the level's DK Coin on the left. The Kongs must dispatch the Mini-Necky, then jump off the Peg Boards to the ledge with the DK Coin. To the right of this ledge is a DK Barrel and the exit to the final area.

Upon entering the final section, a cutscene plays showing King K. Rool ready to use the Crystal Bananas' power to destroy Plantaen. The Kongs and Xananab intervene, causing K. Rool to battle the Kongs. They must attack K. Rool a total of four times as he climbs around a large array of Peg Boards, while also avoiding K. Rool's attacks as he jumps at the Kongs. After he is hit, K. Rool turns red and bounces around the room, ricocheting off the walls. He then lands and throws six mines toward the Kongs, which fall on the ground and explode if they touch the mines or after some time. When he is hit four times, K. Rool is defeated, but he refuses to give up the final Crystal Banana, instead using its power to grow to a massive size. The second phase of the boss fight then begins.

The battle against the giant King K. Rool features several pegs appearing on his belly and chest which the Kongs must grab to climb up to and attack his head. K. Rool also moves his arms as the Kongs ascend; if they touch either of them, he grabs the Kongs and moves them towards his mouth, where he breathes fire that damages them should the Kongs fail to escape. After taking one hit, K. Rool spits five mines onto the ground, after which six meteors rain down from the sky. K. Rool then slams his hands down to remove the pegs, before breathing out some fireballs that turn into more pegs, two fewer than before with each hit. When he is damaged twice, K. Rool creates a windstorm which pushes the Kongs to the right and down, with several pegs, Peg Boards, and mines blowing in from the left. The Kongs must move across the pegs and Peg Boards while avoiding the mines and K. Rool's right hand as it slams down. After the windstorm ends, he repeats the fireball attack to create more pegs. After taking the third hit, K. Rool repeats his attack pattern from after he was damaged the first time, but four larger meteors rain down as opposed to six. K. Rool also reuses his attack pattern from his second hit after taking damage for the fourth time. When K. Rool takes the fifth hit, he shrinks down back to his normal size and falls to the ground in defeat, allowing Donkey Kong to collect the fifth and final Crystal Banana.
