Jam-o'-Wars[1][2] (also referred to generically as jellyfish)[3] are enemies in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Their name is taken from the Portuguese man o' war, a hydrozoan resembling a jellyfish. They are large blue variants of Jammyfish covered in flickering rainbow lights. If Mario or Luigi comes in contact with one, he is shocked. Jam-o'-Wars can be defeated only by hitting them two times with a Koopa Shell. After they are attacked once, they glow green but do not change their behavior.

HistoryEdit

Super Mario GalaxyEdit

In Super Mario Galaxy, Jam-o'-Wars appear only in dark, abyssal areas. They very slowly follow Mario in the water around a small section of the water they inhabit, constantly making electrical noises. If a Jam-o'-War is touched, it flashes between orange and blue while rapidly releasing electricity. Jam-o'-Wars give one coin when defeated.

Subsequent names are listed in chronological order for each language, from oldest to newest, and have the media with which they are associated in the "notes" column. Names exclusive to localizations of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia are not prioritized due to concerns about circular reporting, and are only listed first for their respective languages if they are the only ones available.
