Countdown Platforms are floating semisolid platforms that appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (and its reissue), Yoshi's Island DS, Yoshi's New Island, and Yoshi's Woolly World. They resemble scales with a number labeled on each, this number decreasing by one every time something moves off them. Because of this, the counter does not go down when the player has a Yoshi stand on them; it decreases only when the Yoshi steps off or jumps off them. If the weight on the scale is removed when the counter is at one, the platform vanishes in a puff of smoke. Countdown Platforms typically range from a highest display of four to a lowest of one, but in Yoshi's Woolly World, some go as high as nine. In most games, Countdown Platforms can be activated only by a Yoshi, and every other object passes through them. However, in Yoshi's Woolly World, shells can also trigger these platforms.

Dropdown Countdown Lifts from Super Mario Bros. Wonder function very similarly to Countdown Platforms, both being semisolid platforms that count down how many times the player can step on them. However, the counter on a Dropdown Countdown Lift decreases when stepped on, rather than when stepped off.
