Countdown Platforms are Semisolid Platforms that appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (and its reissue), Yoshi's Island DS, Yoshi's New Island, and Yoshi's Woolly World. They appear as balances with a number labeled on each, with the number shown decreasing by one every time something moves on them. When the number decreases to where zero would be, the entire platform instead vanishes in a puff of smoke. Countdown Platforms typically range from a highest display of four to a lowest of one, but in Yoshi's Woolly World, some go as high as nine. These platforms do not count down if the player has a Yoshi still on them; they decrease only if a Yoshi steps off or jumps off them. In most games, Countdown Platforms can be activated only by a Yoshi; every other object passes through them. However, in Yoshi's Woolly World, shells can also trigger these platforms.
