A big Monty Mole,[1] also known as Mega Monty Mole, is an enlarged version of a Monty Mole that first appears in Super Mario-kun, though they are later seen in games, starting with Mario Golf: World Tour.

History

A Mega Monty Mole, under the name Super Choropū (スーパーチョロプー[2], "Super Monty Mole"), appears in volume 1 of Super Mario-kun, angry at Mario and Yoshi for killing its Monty Mole friends. It tries killing Mario and Yoshi, but it kicks Mario into a ? Block filled with Fire Flowers, which leads to it getting burned by Mario.

A Mega Monty Mole mother named Choropūko appears in volume 23 with her children. She gets mad at Mario for putting golf balls in her home.

Mega Monty Moles are the only species of Monty Moles to first appear in manga, to then later appear in games.

4koma Manga Kingdom

A Mega Monty Mole appears in the 4koma strip titled "Skyscraper Blues" in the second Mario Kart 64 volume of 4koma Manga Kingdom. They attempt to burrow through the hole seen in Big Donut, but they end up getting scorched by the lava. The Mega Monty Mole then attempts to dig through Block Fort, but fails due to the lack of a hole in the course.

Mario Golf: World Tour

Mega Monty Moles make their game debut in Mario Golf: World Tour. Two of them appear in Hole 7 of Wiggler Park. If the player hits them with the ball, they will burrow into the ground.

Mario Party series

Mario Party 10

A Mega Monty Mole appears as the mid-boss of Airship Central in Mario Party 10. He appears in the minigame Mega Monty Mole's Maze Mischief, where the aim is to get through his maze to the different cannons, and then fire at him.

Mario Party: Star Rush

Another Mega Monty Mole appears in Mario Party: Star Rush as the boss of the minigame Mega Monty Mole's in the Hole, where players fight it and two explosive duplicates in a whack-a-mole-style game.

Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS / Super Mario Maker 2

Big Monty Moles appear in Super Mario Maker, and later return in its 3DS port and its Nintendo Switch sequel, as Monty Moles that can be enlarged with Super Mushrooms. They act the same as regular Monty Moles, only bigger.

Yoshi's Crafted World

Big Monty Moles appear as uncommon enemies in Yoshi's Crafted World. They are always found in the background, and must be hit with two eggs to be defeated. It turns red when hit once. Big Monty Moles usually appear when a red Time Cloud is hit, and must be hit to make a Smiley Flower appear. They only appear in Spring Sprung Trail, Monty-Mole-B-Gone, Haunted Maker Mansion, and The Countdown Begins.

  • Although Mega Monty Mole does not return in Mario Party Superstars, its artwork from Mario Party: Star Rush is reused for the normal Monty Moles.[3]
