snd_test (known as SFX Test in the main menu) is an internal test created by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, being the only known internal test for said system. In addition to featuring multiple tests for the system itself, which include testing sound and color, the test also features a basic playable Super Mario game. Said game is selectable from the main menu by choosing options 11 through 14, which are not labeled.

Super Mario elements

Upon starting the game, Mario is frozen for a brief moment. The game places the text "Ready!" on the screen, and Mario will be able to move upon its disappearance. Once the text disappears, Mario will be able to walk, run, and jump. In addition, the player can reset Mario to his starting position by pressing Start. The game contains three different crudely drawn enemies and collectibles, these being flying enemies that may have been intended to be Super Koopas, walking enemies, and gray collectibles that are likely coins. It does not appear that either of these can be defeated, as Mario will take damage upon jumping on them, which will cause him to lose a life. Lives do not work the same way in snd_test, functioning more like a health system than a proper lives system. The player will start the game with sixteen, and the counter goes down immediately without a separate screen upon taking damage. There are four different levels to choose from, though the third never boots past the "Ready!" text in addition to apparently not spawning Mario at all, and the second does not feature the "Ready!" text, being the only one of the four to do so. Each of these can be cleared by obtaining all of the gray collectibles.
