Mario Teaches Typing Enhanced CD-ROM is an enhanced port of the first installment of the series, released in 1994. Most of the gameplay remains the same, however a number of changes have been made to make use of the higher storage capacity of a CD-ROM compared to a floppy disk such as the ability to listen to the rap song "Practice Make Perfect", a floating Mario head who narrates players' lessons and actions throughout the game on top of random small talk and jokes, and cutscenes that give the game a story.

A lot of the port's improvements would go on to make their way into Mario Teaches Typing 2.
