List of Star Pieces in Paper Mario

This is a list of Star Pieces in Paper Mario. There are 160 collectible Star Pieces in the game. This page lists them by location and character, together with screenshots and Merluvlee's comments. A statistics table is also given at the end of the article.

Star Pieces

It should be noted that these are listed in the order of which they may be obtained. Star Pieces which are found by exposing hidden panels cannot be accessed until the Spin Jump/Ground Pound is learned.

Shiver Snowfield	Under a hidden panel in the south of the snowman scene.
Shiver Mountain	On a high platform to the left of the icy stairs leading to the Crystal Palace. Accessible from the Save Block area above.
Crystal Palace	In the cave at the west end of the behind-the-glass area.
Crystal Palace	Under a hidden panel in the west corner of the room with the giant Albino Dino statue.

Rip Cheato	The first, fifth, and tenth purchase from him are Star Pieces.
Koopa Koot	The reward for the 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th favor each are three Star Pieces.

Jade Jungle	3	I see...a Star Piece. After passing behind the Raven statue, you continue trekking deep into the jungle. Eventually you come to a place where many vines hang. You pull one and continue. You notice two Heart Plants growing and an open area to the right. You Spin Jump in this area and find a hidden panel. Beneath it is the piece. I see...a Star Piece. You enter the jungle from Yoshi's Village, part the bushes and go right. You sail to the isle where the piece lies. I see...a Star Piece. In the depths of the jungle you find a spinning flower. When you see it, you sail on the water to the left. Instead of jumping onto the dock, you continue to sail to the left. You dive deep to grab the piece.
Mt. Lavalava	2	I see...a Star Piece. Inside a volcano, you come to a trapeze that goes to the right. Instead of jumping on, you fall off the platform and walk right. You Spin Jump at the dead end on the right and find a hidden panel in the floor. The piece is hidden below. I see...a Star Piece. Far inside the volcano, a spiked ball rolls and smashes through a wall. Once you go through the opening, you find an open space between the recovery block and the stairs leading down. You Spin Jump around there and find a secret chamber. It contains the piece you seek.
Flower Fields	6	I see...a Star Piece. You walk on the path to the right of the Wise Wisterwood in Flower Fields. You and a Lakitu solve the platform puzzle, then you find a jump pad hidden behind a gate. You jump to the upper level and a Paratroopa totes you over to the right. You slam the bushes with a Spin Jump to find the piece. The Hammer finds other pieces, but it doesn't work here. I see...a Star Piece. It is where the flower spirit, Petunia, is growing. To the left of Petunia is a tree, which drops berries, and an open grassy area. You Spin Jump in the grass between the tree and a green bush to find a hidden panel. The piece lies below. I see...a Star Piece. You pass the yellow gatekeeper and come to a spring where a bubble tree lives. On the other side of the spring, you see pink flowers growing by the white fence. You Spin Jump in front of the flowers and find a hidden panel. The piece is below it. I see...a Star Piece. You take the path to the left of the Wise Wisterwood in Flower Fields. You spot it on a platform above the bubble plant but cannot quite reach it. Once you cross the thorny patch you cross over to it. I see...a Star Piece. Once you pass the red gatekeeper in Flower Fields, you see a tree. You Spin Jump in front of it and find a hidden chamber. Within it lies the piece. I see...a Star Piece. Shiver Mountain	1	I see...a Star Piece. You climb a very cold mountain and ascend stairs toward the Crystal Palace. You turn left and jump from the Save Block on the stairs. You land next to the piece.
Crystal Palace	3	I see...a Star Piece. It's in the cave that you see behind the glass at the entrance to the Crystal Palace. You reach the cave by walking around inside the palace and backtracking outside. You think it is impossible to reach? Trust me. I see...a Star Piece. There is a giant statue of an Albino Dino in a room in the back of the Crystal Palace. There is a ? Block near the door of this room. You Spin Jump under the block and find a hidden panel. The piece is just below. I see...a Star Piece. There is a small statue of an Albino Dino in a back room in Crystal Palace. Origin of Kolorado's Star Pieces

Kolorado mentions the origin of the Star Piece he gives to Mario and Parakarry for delivering his letter. However, there are several versions of the story, depending on where the letter is delivered. In the first half of the game it is from Dry Dry Desert:

• (Dry Dry Desert) "I came across it while I was immersed in the dig around here."
• (Toad Town dock) "I came across it while I was researching my latest project in Dry Dry Desert."

In the second half it is from Jade Jungle:

• (Lavalava Island) "I came across it while I was wandering about the jungle researching things."
• (Pleasant Path) "I came upon it during my incredibly important research on Lavalava Island."
• (Koopa Village) "I found it on scenic Lavalava Island."

For the Star Piece he gives for the Artifact, Kolorado only mentions the origin when it is given at the dock in Toad Town: "I found it in Dry Dry Desert. I have no use for it."
