Espio the Chameleon is a character from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and a member of the Team Chaotix, along with Vector the Crocodile, and Charmy Bee.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games series[edit]

He appears in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, acting as a referee, alongside many other characters. Espio is the third Sonic the Hedgehog referee, after Cream the Rabbit and Charmy Bee. He retains this role in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. In the latter, he gives the player his costume after they win 12 events. In Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, he is the cameraman for record-breaking interviews with the athletes.

In Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, he appears as a playable character, his first playable appearance in the series. He is only playable in the Long Jump event (and Long Jump Plus in the Nintendo 3DS version). Additionally, although he is available from the start in the 3DS version, Espio must be unlocked before he can be played as in the Wii U version; this is done so by beating him in a tournament match.

Espio reappears in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, this time exclusive to Triple Jump.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

He appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a collectible sticker, as well as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Espio, Vector, and Charmy Bee appear together as a Spirit.

Name Image Description
Espio EspioTheChameleonTrophy3DS.png American English: Espio is a vital member of the Chaotix Detective Agency. He is stoic and disciplined, acting as the voice of reason to Vector and Charmy. Being a chameleon, he can easily conceal himself from long he doesn't sneeze. That may ruin the illusion.

British English: Vector might be the boss at Chaotix Detective Agency, but Espio's definitely the voice of reason. As a chameleon, the ninja of the animal kingdom, he can turn invisible to slip past enemies unnoticed. He just has to be careful not to sneeze when he's invisible. A blunder like that'll blow his cover instantly!
