Info	Two teams play ice hockey on the streets, using various mechanisms to help shoot the puck into the opponent's goal. The team that scores the most points within the allotted time wins.

Snow Day Street Hockey is a Dream Event that appears in Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The objective of the event is to score more points than the opposing team in a set amount of time, with the event taking place in Delfino Plaza. Lakitu appears as a referee in this event.

Gameplay

In this event, the player can choose to play either 2 or 3 periods, each of which last 2 minutes. When played in single player, the player will be put through straight to the gold medal match, without having to play any qualifying matches. For each period, the player selects one of three streets to play on, Main Street, Market Street, or Coin Street, each of which have unique layouts and music. In multiplayer mode, street picks are decided on a majority vote. Main Street is a round rink with a raised centre located on the right hand side of Delfino Plaza, behind the canal. The rink has goals on either side, and eight green Warp Pipe-styled boxes around the rink, that, when the puck is shot into them, cause Piantas to appear from the windows above and temporarily replace the puck with a Green Shell or Red Shell. The bonus goal appears in one of the windows in the place of the Pianta. Market Street is located at the front of Delfino Plaza, behind the Grand Pianta Statue and along the market stalls. The rink is long with two larger round sections at each end, containing each team's goal, and the bonus goal appearing beneath the clock tower in the centre of the area, also causing the clock to chime. Mushroom Trampolines appear at both ends of the rink in front of the goal, causing characters who hit them to bounce into the air. If the player hits the Banana stands on Market Street with the puck, Bananas will appear on the rink, and cause those who hit them to slip and be stunned. Coin Street is a rectangular rink located on the right side of Delfino Plaza, looking out onto the beach. The rink is filled with Brick Blocks that form walls around the two goals, and also has raised ramps at either end of the rink. POW Blocks are located in harder to reach locations around the rink and can be used to temporarily stun all of the opponents when hit. The rink also features a P Switch, which turns various sets of the Brick Blocks on the rink into Coins. Collecting 8 Coins will cause a Lakitu to appear with a bonus goal, which it will slowly carry around the rink.

To start each period and after a goal is scored, the player takes part in a face-off, where the player must press the or to take control of the puck before their opponent. In this event, the player moves by using the left stick on the Wii U GamePad or the Control Pad on the Wii Remote, with the character going in the direction the player inputs. When the player has control of the puck, they can pass by pressing either the or and shoot by pressing the or . The player can also perform tricks when they have the puck. They can perform Quick Dashes by inputting twice in the same direction for a short boost of speed, Edge Turns to turn around quickly by rapidly inputting around to the other direction, Quick Turns to disrupt opponents by inputting all four directions in a rotation, and Puck Tosses to swap direction by pressing the or . Performing tricks, along with controlling the puck for extended periods of time, fills the Power Gauge, which allows the player to perform power shots. The gauge is emptied after successfully performing a shot or being hit by the opponents' tricks. When full, a Power Shot is activated in place of the regular shot, and allows the player to perform a more powerful shot in a direction of their choosing by sliding on the Touch Screen or swinging the Wii Remote in the desired direction. If the player hits another character on their team while performing a power shot, the character hit will then perform their own power shot to hit the puck into the goal. If the other team starts a Power Shot, the player will control their Shy Guy goalie to save the goal, and can use the Left Stick or Control Pad to move it, and the or to make a jumping catch for the puck. When the other team has control of the puck, the player can aim to get it back by hitting the opponent with the puck, or by performing a body check with the or . If unsuccessful, the character will need to briefly recover from the body check before being able to move again, however successful body checks will stun the opponent. The player can also switch characters by touching them on the touch screen or by pressing . Periodically, or, on Coin Street, when certain conditions are met, Bonus Goals will appear, which are worth two points rather than just one. The goals are shot in the usual way, but appear in different positions. The team with the most points after all of the periods wins.

1. Face-Off (Start)

   At the beginning of the match and after a goal is scored, a player from each team competes for control of the puck in a face-off.

3. Tricks

   Tricks are special moves you can use when you have the puck.
   There are four types of tricks.
   The first trick is the quick dash, which gives you a burst of speed in a straight line.
   To do a Quick Dash, snap twice in the direction you want to go while handling the puck. / To do a Quick Dash, quickly press twice in the same direction while handling the puck.
   Try doing a quick dash now.
   Next is the Edge Turn, which lets you change direction with a sharp turn while moving fast.
   To do an Edge Turn, rotate at least 90 degrees away from the direction you are going in while handling the puck. / To do an edge turn, quickly rotate to another direction while you are handling the puck.

   Next is the quick turn, which lets you perform a spinning turn to shake off opponents while handling the puck.

   The last trick is the Puck Lift, which lets you lift the puck up and turn on the spot to face the opposite direction.

4. Power Shots
   Let's talk about power shots.
   Single Player explanations will appear on the Wii U GamePad. Multiplayer explanations will be displayed on the TV screen.
   The power gauge for both teams is shown on the bottom of the screen. When it is full, you can unleash a power shot.
   The power gauge fills up as you handle the puck and perform tricks near opponents, but it empties if you get hit by your opponents' tricks.
   To perform a power shot, press when the power gauge is full. / To perform a power shot, press when the power gauge is full.
   When performing a power shot with the Wii U GamePad, slide on the touch screen like you are flicking the puck with your finger. / When performing a power shot with the Wii Remote Plus, swing the Wii Remote Plus like a hockey stick.
   Slide quickly from the middle of the touch screen to the upper right to shoot right, and to the upper let to shoot left. / Swing from right to left to shoot to the left. Swing from back to front to shoot the puck straight.

5. Defence
   Let's talk about how to play defence.
   Single Player explanations will appear on the Wii U GamePad. Multiplayer explanations will be displayed on the TV screen.
   You can steal the puck when the other team has it by approaching the opponent handling the puck and hitting the puck with your stick.
   Try stealing the puck from an opponent now.
   Steal the puck from opponents who are farther away using a body check. Press when you don't have the puck to do a body check. / Steal the puck from opponents who are farther away using a body check. Press when you don't have the puck to do a body check.
   Body-check an opponent with the puck to knock them away and steal it.
   However, you'll lose a lot of time if the opponent dodges your body check.
   To control a different character, touch the character you want to switch to on the touch screen. / To control a different character, press .
   When the other team unleashes a power shot, you'll control the Shy Guy goalie.
   Move left or right to move the Shy Guy left or right. / To move the Shy Guy left or right, press left or right on .
   Press to jump. / Press to jump.
   If the goalie is in position, he catches the puck automatically. If it looks like the puck will be close, try for a jumping catch!
   Try controlling the Shy Guy now and make a save.
6. Bonus Goals
   Let's talk about bonus goals.
   Bonus goals sometimes appear during Snow Day Street Hockey matches. Each bonus goal is worth 2 points.
   You can shoot at the bonus goal and score from any angle.
   As long as your shot reaches the bonus goal, you can score with a normal shot or a power shot.

Control Hints

• The POW Blocks on Coin Street can knock out your opponents. Use them for defence and offence!
• There is a banana stand on Market Street. If ou run into it with the puck or the puck hits the bananas, banana peels will go flying.
