Template:Item-infobox Event tokens are special green coins that appear during certain events in Mario Kart Tour, starting with the Wild West Tour. In some tours, event tokens can appear in all courses, where they replaced several of the normal coins in a random manner. They could also be obtained from Item Boxes instead of normal coins, from other drivers who have gotten hit, and from the Coin Box special item. In other tours, event tokens could also be earned by landing hits with shells, bananas or Bob-ombs. Up to 99 event tokens can be collected in a single race, although they can never be collected in bonus challenges.

Event tokens can then be used to purchase items from a Token Shop, which contains items not found in the Daily Selects, such as points-cap tickets and rubies. All items have a limit for how many times they can be purchased. Players can only have as many event tokens as needed to purchase all of the items in the Token Shop, after which they will stop appearing on courses. Any unspent event tokens collected in one tour are not carried over to the next.

In Team Rally events, event tokens are replaced by team tokens, which serve the same function, though the player is required to collect as many as possible in order for their selected team to win. The tokens are redesigned to match the team. In the Mario vs. Luigi Tour, Team Mario and Team Luigi's tokens have red and green borders respectively and white centers with their emblems imprinted on them. In the Peach vs. Daisy Tour, Team Peach and Team Daisy's tokens have pink and orange borders respectively and white centers with their emblems imprinted on them. In the Bowser vs. DK Tour, Team Bowser and Team Donkey Kong's tokens reuse the colors of Team Mario and Team Luigi's tokens from the Mario vs. Luigi Tour, but with Bowser and Donkey Kong's emblems imprinted on them instead. Team tokens only appear in races if the player is using a driver from their team.

Event tokens are very similar in appearance to the Bonus Medals in Super Mario Run, having a similar Super Star design on them.
