Picross NP Vol.2 is a puzzle game released exclusively in Japan for the Super Famicom via the Nintendo Power cartridge service. The game features 120 puzzles, with the "Character" ones being themed after Yoshi's Story. The game functions in the same manner as other nonogram games, with the player having to reveal an image in a logic puzzle via scraping certain squares.

Modes[edit]

The game features seven different modes, with the size of the puzzles progressively getting larger throughout the first few modes.

Beginner[edit]

The Beginner mode features a series of 5x5, 10x10, and 15x15 puzzles, all of which are various generic objects. The first four puzzles are all in a 5x5 square, the second four puzzles are all in a 10x10 square, and the final set of four are all in a 15x15 square, with the order of the puzzles seemingly being numbered after the order of the letters in the English alphabet.

Regular[edit]

The "Regular" mode features quadruple the amount of puzzles as the previous mode. The mode retains the letter-based identification from the prior mode, though the numbering resets every seven puzzles, thus needing a number identifier before each letter. All of the puzzles in this mode are themed after either objects, animals, or people, with foods making an infrequent appearance.

Professional[edit]

The "Professional" puzzles begin at a smaller size than the previous set of four, starting at a grid size of 15x15. However, the puzzles quickly transition to a larger grid size, this being 25x20. Many of these puzzles are based on fictional elements, including ones explicitly tied to Japanese culture. The remaining puzzles are a mix of the type that would fit in previous categories, being animals, objects, and food. As there are only eleven puzzles in this mode, it does not use the previous mode's identifier, instead using the same identifier as the "Beginner" mode.

Character[edit]

The "Character" mode includes puzzles based on Yoshi's Story, with the grid size switching every four puzzles, as it did in the "Beginner" mode. The grid size starts out as 15x15, then switches after the first four to 20x20, and then switches one final time after the second set of four to 25x20. As with the previous set, this set of puzzles only has eleven entries, meaning it continues to use the identifier from the "Beginner" mode.

Special[edit]

The "Special" mode features a set of eleven puzzles themed after The Wizard of Oz. As with the previous three modes, since it only includes eleven puzzles, the numbered identifier is not needed, so the mode uses the identifier from the "Beginner" mode. This mode is the only other themed mode throughout the game, with the following two modes returning to the previous standard of featuring generic objects.

Extra[edit]

The "Extra" mode features a mix of generic objects and various characters and people relating explicitly to Japanese culture, including fairy-tale characters. This is the last set of puzzles within this entry in the Picross NP series to feature a specific order of puzzles, using the same identifier as the previous set of puzzles, since there are only eleven puzzles in the mode.

Battle[edit]

The "Battle" mode features a set of twelve puzzles, though they appear in a random order and thus drop the identifier entirely. The puzzles continue the theme of relating to animals, objects, or people, though the puzzles relating to people are now either an action undertaken by a person or a general identifier for someone, not a specific job or fictional person in the manner that the previous modes featured.
