Mario running across pits
Mario dashing across many narrow pits.

Dashing is a move in the Mario franchise, which allows a character to run much faster then normal. Mario, Luigi, and their friends can dash by holding the B, X, or Y buttons and/or using the Control Stick (depending on the game and/or control setup). This will make the character run faster than usual, causing them to run over small pits. They can also jump higher and farther than normal while dashing. In Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario 64 DS, and Super Mario 3D World, each of the playable characters are capable of dashing/sprinting at different speeds after running for a while (or grabbing an object in Super Mario Bros. 2); the sprint quickness varies in 3D World, being inversely proportional to one's top speed (the faster runners take longer to sprint, and vice-versa).

Dash is also the name of a move that was used by Twink during the events of Paper Mario. It was the only move that Twink could use. When Twink uses it, he bashes into the enemy; in this case, Kammy Koopa. This move was made stronger by Princess Peach's Focus to defeat Kammy Koopa.
