Instax for Nintendo Switch (also referred to as instax mini Link for Nintendo Switch[3] and Link for Nintendo Switch[2]) is an application released by FUJIFILM Corporation in 2021. The application allows users to print screenshots taken via the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 via the Instax mini Link 2 and Instax mini Link 3 devices. In addition, the app also features augmented reality functionality.

Functions[edit]

Printing[edit]

The main function of Instax for Nintendo Switch is to print gameplay screenshots taken via the system. The method of doing so differs between the two systems; on the Nintendo Switch, users must first select a screenshot to print and pull up the QR code screen. Users must then tap the "Switch Direct Print" button in the app to activate a QR code scanner. After scanning the code, the Nintendo Switch will be connected to the user's phone, and the image will have been transferred via the app. Users can then tap the "Print" button, which will print the image via their Instax device. Users can also use the "Simple Print" function to print stills from gameplay videos the user has saved on their device. On the Nintendo Switch 2, users must first select a screenshot and tap "Upload to your phone" to transfer the image to the Nintendo Switch App. Users must then open the Nintendo Switch App to save the image to their phone. Users must then open Instax for Nintendo Switch and select the image they downloaded, and then click the "Print" button. For richer colors, users can print their photos in "instax-Rich Mode".

Graphics[edit]

The application allows the user to add stickers or frames themed after various Nintendo properties to their photo. One sheet of each is themed after the Super Mario franchise. Each example photo for the frames and stickers depicts a screenshot of Mario Kart World, which is shown throughout the website to indicate the Nintendo Switch 2 in places such as the printing instructions.

AR[edit]

The application also contains AR functionality via instax AiR Studio. To set up this functionality, users are to first slowly move their phone until it detects the floor. Then, users must tap the instax logo and set up instax AiR Studio. Users can then choose "Back" and "Decor" options, which (within the "Super Mario" mode) include three-dimensional models of coins, Warp Pipes, Brick Blocks, Goombas, Red Shells, a Super Mushroom on a ? Block, and Peach's Castle. Users can then print their photos.

Click to Collage[edit]

The application allows users to make a collage of their photos via the "Click to Collage" mode. Users must first press the shutter button to begin the countdown. Once the user begins taking photos, six photos can be taken at maximum. Users can pause shooting by tapping the shutter button a second time. Users are to then choose their layout for their photos, including whether to use two photos, four photos, or all six. The photos can also be rearranged or edited individually. Once the user is done editing, they are to tap the "Print" button. The application will connect to their printer and print out the photo. Their photos can also be saved as an instax Animation. Users can then edit the background of the animation and save it to their Camera Roll.

Notes[edit]

  • The app also allows users to choose from one of four designs pertaining to Nintendo properties, one of which is Super Mario-themed. The Super Mario design is the only design not themed after a specific game.
  • The website is predominantly themed after the Super Mario franchise. Mario Kart World is frequently used in instructions to indicate the Nintendo Switch 2, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder is used in instructions to indicate the Nintendo Switch.
  • The device was promoted in an article on Nintendo of Japan's official website on licensed goods.[4]
  • The website provides four "ideas" for the user to use the application. They are as follows:
    • Capture the hottest moments of your gameplay.
    • Keep a record of you and your friends' gaming milestones!
    • Craft your own memory log - one you'll wont[sic] to replay.
    • Take your favorite prints with you.
