- “Will my loved ones become swine? Will I, too, become a curly-tailed oinker? I'm so worried, I can't sleep at night.”
- —Mayor Dour, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Pigs are a species which appear in Chapter 4 of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. They are the cursed forms assumed by various NPCs in Twilight Town.
A Duplighost known as Doopliss enchants the bell of the Creepy Steeple so that every time it rings, a citizen of Twilight Town would be transformed into a Pig. Once he is defeated, everyone is turned back and pigs can no longer be encountered. Unlike most characters in the game, the pigs of Twilight Town are fully three-dimensional in nature, and are visually reminiscent of Li'l Oinks from Paper Mario, albeit with visible ears as well as red eyes likely to denote their cursed status.
In the Nintendo Switch remake, Pigs bare a more prominent papercraft aesthetic to match the artstyle of later entries. A few pigs also appear in the reworked credits sequence.

| Image | Character | Tattle | Time of transformation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gloomer | "That's Gloomer the pig... I mean... Gloomer, the guy who got turned into a pig. When I think of him having to live like this, I get oinked up... I mean, choked up..." | During the cutscene which plays after entering Twilight Town. | |
| Eve | "I KNOW she didn't turn into a pig to feed her hungry children... That would be TOO gnarly! But that is some spooky timing, I swear..." | Shortly after Mario gives food to her children. | |
| Mayor Dour | "Even the mayor got turned into a pig! At this rate, they'll all be pigs soon. And then... maybe even us... NO WAY!" | After Mario seeks him out to get the gatekeeper to let him enter Twilight Trail | |
| Twilight Shop manager | "This pig is a Twilighter. The shock of being cursed made him lose his way, I bet." | Already transformed when first encountered. | |
| Traveling Sisters Three | "I feel like I've met these pigs before... How is that possible?" | Already transformed when first encountered. | |
| Battle Master (Nintendo Switch only) | "This little fella seems oddly relaxed, don't you think? Something tells me this is not a normal pig..." | Already transformed when first encountered. | |
| Dupree | ""That's the shop manager... who's now a pig. Yuck. What a totally awful fate..." | Already transformed when first encountered. Initially mistaken for the Twilight Shop manager. |

Notes[edit]
- The title of the chapter in which these events take place is called "For Pigs the Bell Tolls", which is a reference to the novel written by Ernest Hemingway called For Whom the Bell Tolls.
- In Volume 7 of Super Mario-kun a disease known as Influenza tontonbū-gata causes the inhabitants of Mura Mura to transform into pigs, which is similar to the curse on the residents of Twilight Town.
