History[edit]

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions[edit]

Captain Shy Guy

Captain Shy Guy first joins Captain Goomba in Turnip Tantrum after he takes out some brainwashed minions, though the latter is reluctant to have two captains. The former explains that he would give Captain Goomba an advantage due to the Power Triangle, and Captain Goomba accepts him as a captain. In Chucklehuck Woods, Captain Shy Guy humorously lets Captain Goomba follow the scent of the Chuckola Cola, refuses an offer to join Sergeant Guy because Captain Goomba is, according to him, "good people", and throws a Turnip to get Captain Boo out of hiding.

In Gwarhar Lagoon, Captain Goomba makes him their "Captain of Cuteness," which he heavily resents, sulking off-screen for most of the cutscenes in that section. He also throws a Turnip at Captain Boo for teasing him. In Joke's End, he oversees Spear Guys donating their spears to repair the Koopa Cruiser, which previously held the Beanstar. He also secretly tells Captain Boo and Captain Koopa Troopa that he is a fan of Captain Goomba. At Bowser's Castle, he helps Captain Goomba regain his confidence and knows that "Bowser" was Bowletta all along after Fawful's initial defeat.

Like other Shy Guys, Captain Shy Guy's Special Skill is Throw the Fight, and deals critical damage to Lakitus and Lakipeas.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey[edit]

Captain Shy Guy appears in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, where he is an enemy and recruitable ally in the Bowser Jr.'s Journey mode. He fights alongside Captain Goomba, Captain Boo, Captain Koopa Troopa, and King Bob-omb. He later joins Bowser Jr.'s troops along with the other captains after saving him from the Best Fitness Friends. Captain Shy Guy retains his Throw the Fight Special Skill, and unlike other Shy Guys, Captain Shy Guy is still strong against Lakitus and is also strong against Lakitu Kings.

Personality[edit]

Captain Shy Guy has a somewhat dry sense of humor and is quick to annoy, leading to him pelting the people that annoy him with Turnips. He often acts as a foil to the impulsive and eager Captain Goomba, and while occasionally annoyed by his antics or lack of understanding of certain concepts, he does in fact trust him as a leader. In the "Cutie Battle Contest", he had stage fright. Before the Minions reach Bowser's Castle, Captain Shy Guy has to reassure Captain Goomba, who had started slipping back into his older, timid personality, to continue on acting as a strong leader.
