Black Yoshi is a Yoshi that appears in Yoshi's Story. He is an unlockable character that has not appeared in a lot of games. He and the White Yoshi are special, as they have certain abilities that give them advantages over the other Yoshis. They can be found in large, hidden eggs on several levels in the game.

Black Yoshis reappear in Yoshi's Island DS, playable in the Secret levels of each world.

In Mario Power Tennis, Yoshi can change colors every time he performs a Rolling Egg Return, provided the player has completed the Flower Cup with any character. One of the colors that Yoshi can turn is black.

In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Black Yoshi appeared once, during the battle with Sunnycide. Like the other Yoshis, he can be freed from his egg, and run to push a rock. He is the 2nd to hatch (first being Green Yoshi) when opening the Yoob egg.

  • Can eat many things that other Yoshis cannot, such as Red Peppers and Black Shy Guys.
  • Can fire eggs that explode in gigantic explosions and can destroy more than one enemy at a time.
  • Has a very low voice (Lowest of all the Yoshis in the game.)

In Yoshi's Story, Black Yoshi debuted with black skin and white shoes with a red saddle. However, in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, the shoes were grey instead of white.
