The spinning tube[1]:98 is a type of cylindrical tunnel which rotates perpetually, and appears in Mario Kart 7. They appear similar to the spinning bridge from Mario Kart DS, except they have to be passed right through, and so don't necessarily instill the risk of falling off unless an alternate path is taken that lets them drive on top.

Two types of spinning tube appear in Mario Kart 7: one type, simply called "spinning tube", is found at the start of the third section of Rainbow Road. This spinning tube is rainbow-colored with a white spiral pattern and a tiled and starry overlay. The spinning tube has Dash Panels placed inside, and features a star-shaped ring at the start, as well as Dash Panel ramps and Glide Ramps at the end. The second type, referred to as a paddle wheel,[1]:94 is featured in Bowser's Castle, right before the underwater section. This type is a wooden tube with metal paddles at the end. Racers can pass through it, or use an alternate path to drive on top.

In Mario Kart Tour, spinning tubes reappear on 3DS Rainbow Road as well as its R variant, and one or more paddle wheels reappear on 3DS Bowser's Castle and all its variants, as well as Yoshi's Island T. 3DS Rainbow Road also returns in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as part of the Booster Course Pass, so its spinning tube also reappears as well. The spinning tubes on 3DS Rainbow Road have a more simplistic design in both Mario Kart Tour and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
