Chapter 1

ホラーハウスだい捜査そうさせん ピーチひめはどこだ!? ("The Great Horror House Investigation: Where is Princess Peach!?")

While making his way to the basement, Mario notices a door at the end of a corridor and, after walking through it, he arrives in castle courtyard, which is currently infested by Boos. The ghosts tell Mario they have Princess Peach in their clutches. Furious, Mario stomps each one of them, so the lead Boo admits defeat and explains they are keeping Peach trapped in a tiny cage. Getting closer, Mario gets sucked in, finding himself in the Big Boo's Haunt. Once he lands in, Mario gets swarmed by a bunch of Scuttlebugs, so he retreats inside the gloomy manor.

Deciding to explore the rooms, Mario enters one full of caskets, pissing himself from fear when one pops open and what looks to be the spirit of Princess Peach emerges from it. Mario chases down the spirit through various doors, but he ends up in a room without a floor and he falls down to the sewers (glad that, at least, he can cover up his little accident). Following a carnival tune, Mario arrives in a room with a merry-go-round, where he comes face to face with Big Boo. By pretending him to be the ghost of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Mario is able to lower is guard and stomp on his head, and the Big Boo disappears.

While he comments on the anti-climacting battle, Mario exits the sewers, only to spot the Big Boo on the manor's balcony, mocking him for believing to have killed a ghost. Inviting him for another battle, Big Boo summons a staircase in the manor's lobby, allowing Mario to explore the upper floor. Inside the manor, Mario hears Peach's song playing on a piano and goes to investigate: he sees Peach's spirit playing a piano, but when he gets near, Peach disappears and the piano puts out fangs to eat him. Mario escapes through the library, but gets attacked by a floating chair and the Bookends, who restrain him in place, while the killer piano gets closer and closer, but he manages to stop it by scolding it to not make a ruckus in the library.

After shooing away the Bookends, Mario spots Peach on a ledge. With a well-placed Wall Kick, Mario grabs the ledge, and realizes the Peach he has been chased were just three Boos with the princess painted on their backs. While trying to mock him to kiss their behind, while Mario is still holding to the ledge, he moves under the ledge and the eyes falls right into Mario's field of view, causing them to get embarassed and cover their faces. With the Boo distracted, Mario kicks them and gets up the ledge in one swift motion. His troubles are not over yet, as a Mr. I blocks his path and tries to shoot him down. Scared, Mario runs around, eventually causing the Mr. I to become dizzy and explode.

With no one finally stopping him, Mario gets on the balcony and meets up with the Big Boo on the rooftop. Mario demands to know where Peach is. The Big Boo reveals she was never in their domain: he went through a wild goose chase for nothing. Angry, Mario jumps the Big Boo, but he pushes him back, and shoves him off the building: a sure way to kill him. As he falls down, the real Peach communicates with Mario, explaining she has always watched over him, and pleading him not to die. Feuled up with motivation, Mario grabs the building's wall, climbs it up, and goes back on the rooftop, explaining his love for Peach allowed him to survive. Embarassed by the lovey-dovey talk, Big Boo covers his face, allowing Mario to deliver the final blow and to obtain a Power Star. After leaving the stage, Mario returns to the castle.

Chapter 2[edit]

Chapter 2

はばたけマリオ!ピラミッドじょうくう到達とうたつせり!? ("Soar high, Mario! Reached the top of the pyramid!?")

After dealing with the last two remaining Boos in the courtyard, Mario returns to the castle, calling for Peach, when her voice invites him to look at the skylight in the lobby. Upon doing so, Mario finds himself on the Tower of the Wing Cap in the spirit realm created by Peach's heart. By pressing the big red switch, unlocking the Wing Cap. Just as Mario asks to remain in Peach's heart world, he suddenly finds himself back in the basement, in front of the locked door from before. By using Bowser's key, Mario accesses the humid basement, where he finds MIPS, Peach's pet rabbit, jumping around with a Power Star in his paw. Mario leaps towards him, but ends up phazing through a wall, and gets teleported to the desertic area of Shifting Sand Land.

Not even one second in that Mario gets sucked by a tornado and launched into the air, where a Klepto steals his cap. Without his hat protecting him from the heat, Mario spots an oasis in the distance and crawls towards it. But before he can dip in the water, he activates a Warp Point that takes him to a maze over a pit of deadly quicksand. Even worse, the area is patrolled by the Tox Boxes who nearly squash him if it wasn't for their one hollow face. Escaping a persistant Tox Box, Mario Long Jumps to the nearby pyramid's base, and only then he realizes, by witnessing the Tox Box falling and sinking in, that he was feet away from quicksand. As he backs away in fear, Mario accidentally trips and tumbles inside the pyramid.

After discovering that the aqueduct is not carrying water, Mario finds a sign explaining that, who desires to access the treasure room must first "stand on top of the four pillars outside the pyramid". After a Spindel scares Mario and a Grindel squashes him, two Goombas understand that Mario has become weak and proceed to torment him. Mario gets rid of them and gets out of the pyramid. As he approaches a red block, Peach's voice tells him that he can use the red block's content to become Wing Mario. Soaring through the skies, Mario finds Klepto and takes his cap back, sending the bird plummeting into the quicksand, then he goes to stand on the pillars, causing the top of the pyramid to explode. Inside, an elevator takes him to the treasure room, but his intrusion awakens the guardian: Eyerok, two giant hands made out of bricks with eyes in their palms.

Avoiding their fist and attempts to shove him in a pit, Mario manages to land two kicks in Eyerok's eyes, causing the respective hand's explosion. Eyerok surrenders the treasure and Mario obtains another Power Star. After returning to the castle, Mario manages to catch MIPS too and obtains a second Power Star.

Cameos and caricatures[edit]

Real-life people[edit]

  • Toyotomi Hideyoshi: when first facing the Big Boo, Mario takes advantage of his Japanese name (おやかたテレサ, Oyakata Teresa, "Boss/Master Boo") to act as if he was the Sengoku period samurai by offering him Nobugata sandals, which at the time symbolized high rank, a status that Hideyoshi was able to attain.
