Visually, they are pinkish instead of white and feature an eighth note (♪) on the sides. A Music Block can be placed by shaking a Note Block in Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, or by pressing and holding a Note Block and selecting the Music Block from the context menu, in Super Mario Maker 2.

A Music Block can be placed by shaking a Note Block. The pitch of the note that is placed depends on the height: for example, a Music Block placed one block above the bottom of the level will play a low note, while placing it towards top of the level will play a high note. In addition to playing different pitches of notes, the instrumentation will also change depending on what falls onto it. Examples include Mario's sound being a steel drum, a Super Mushroom playing a chiptune, and a piano playing when a Goomba lands on one. Due to this functionality, users have created levels that play customized music using different objects falling onto them.

Effect Play a music note, jump higher, release items.

Music Blocks are objects that appear in Super Mario Maker, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Mario Maker 2. They are derived from Note Blocks and function identically, while also playing a short musical note when an object lands on it.

The pitch of the note that is played depends on the Music Block's height: for example, a Music Block placed one block above the bottom of the level will play a low note, while placing it towards the top of the level will play a high note. In addition to playing different pitches of notes, the instrumentation varies depending on what object lands on the Music Block. For example, Mario's sound is a steel drum, a Super Mushroom's is a chiptune pulse wave, and a Goomba's is a piano. Due to this functionality, users have created levels that drop different objects onto Music Blocks to play customized music.
