They are similar to Red Rings, which generate Red Coins. When all the Green Coins have been collected, the player receives a power-up or a 1-Up Mushroom.
Green Rings reappear in Super Mario 3D World in the shape of a Green Star. When passed through, eight Green Coins appear similar to Red Coins from Red Rings. When all Green Coins are collected, a Green Star appears.
